This research analysis the recognition of the national image of Korea by North Korean refugees. It assumes that the national image recognized by North Korean refugees is an important factor to determines their belief, attitude and behavior toward the Republic of Korea. It surveyed 405 North Korean refugees to investigate what Korea’s national image characteristics is, and used Country Reputation Index (CRI) as the measurement of the national image. The analytical results show that South Korea’s national image possessed by North Korean refugees appeared to be 3.7707 in the average, and the score is higher than the ordinary score (3). Socio-demographic factors in North Korean refugees group which have impact on a national image differs according to their ages and academic backgrounds in South Korea, and lead to a large difference in national image evaluation of South Korea. The factors have influence on every sub-element. In particular, the national image about leadership appeal appeared to be the lowest among national image sub-elements. It is identified that the national image differs particularly depending on ages, position in South Korea, and academic background in Korea.

본 연구는 대한민국 국가이미지에 대한 북한이탈주민의 인식에 관한 연구이다. 본 연구는 북한이탈주민의 대한민국 국가이미지 인식이 대한민국에 대한 그들의 신념과 태도, 행동을결정하는 중요한 요인이라고 보고, 북한이탈주민의 대한민국 국가이미지 특성이 무엇인지 분석하기 위해북한이탈주민 405명을 대상으로 설문을 진행하였으며, 국가이미지를 측정하기 위한 도구로는 국가명성지수(CRI)를 적용하였다. 연구 결과, 북한이탈주민의 대한민국 국가이미지는 평균 3.7707로 보통(3)보다 높게 나타났다. 북한이탈주민 집단 내에서 국가이미지에 영향을 미치는 인구사회학적 요인은 연령과 남한에서의 학력에 따라 대한민국 국가이미지 평가가 가장 크게 달라졌으며, 모든 하위요소에 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었다. 특히국가이미지 하위요인 중 리더십 소구에 대한 국가이미지가 가장 낮게 나타났는데 특히 연령, 남한에서의지위, 남한에서의 학력에 따라 달라지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
