A Locality is one of the tough topic to discuss in architecture. The architects in Jeju made various seminars and discussions but the locality of Jeju is still staying in general level even this subject has been arised from old days. The purpose of this research is considering locality in Jeju through researching buildings which Itami Jun built in Jeju. This research started by site survey and analysis building sites for 6 buildings which Itami Jun left in Jeju, this research conducted over 5 times since 2007 for now. Through these researches, analyzed how Itamu Jun realized and implemented locality by his buildings. Considering the point that Itami Jun was an architect with deep consideration of locality, his architecture subsumes the locality of tangibility and intangibility. With analysis of his architectural thinking, unique environment of Jeju and in site survey, the locality which he realized turned up as the form of superimposed and valued locality, not as meanings and phenomenon. Superimposed locality refers to the complex of architectural meanings and phenomenon implemented in locality, and valued locality stands for unique value which has implemented through the respect and consideration only those areas have, such as original landscape of Jeju.

건축에서 지역성은 다루기 힘든 주제 중 하나이다. 제주의 경우 건축의 지역성은 제주건축계에서 오랜 기간 다루어진 주제였으며, 다양한 논의와 세미나도 진행되었다. 그러나 이러한 논의들에도 불구하고 제주건축의 지역성은 일반적인 수준에 머물러 있다. 이에 본 연구는 제주에 남긴 이타미 준의 건축을 통해 제주의 지역성에 대해 고찰해보고자 한다. 이를 위해 이타미 준이 제주에 남긴 여섯 개의 건축물을 분석하였다. 또한 2007년부터 현재까지 5회 이상의 현장답사와 현장분석을 진행하였고 이를 통해 이타미 준이 구현한 지역성의 의미를 분석하였다. 그 결과 이타미 준이 지역성에 대해 깊은 사유와 성찰을 한 건축가였다는 점에서 그가 남긴 제주의 건축은 유무형의 지역성을 담고 있었다. 이타미 준의 건축 사유, 제주라는 독특한 환경, 현장답사와 분석 결과, 그가 구현한 지역성은 의미와 현상이 아닌 중합적 지역성과 가치적 지역성으로 나타났다. 중합적 지역성은 건축의 의미와 현상이 복합적으로 구현된 지역성을 뜻하고, 가치적 지역성은 제주의 고유 풍경처럼 그 지역만 가지고 있는 고유 가치에 대한 존중과 배려를 통해 구현된 지역성이라 할 수 있다.
