Animated documentary, a new genre that is actively produced and has recently drawn academic attention feels unfamiliar. While previous studies focused on the possibility of animation as a device for documentation, this study takes note of how animation’s diverse styles are combined with documentary meaning. This paper gives a general view of the definition and classification of animated documentaries based on research by Roe, who has drawn attention with this new genre. As a case study, this paper analyzes Michel Gondry’s 2013 film .

최근 들어 활발한 제작과 함께 학문적 관심을 끌고 있는 애니메이션 다큐멘터리는 이질적인 두 세계가 만난 듯 생소하게 느껴진다. 기존의 연구들이 애니메이션이 다큐멘터리를 위한 도구로서 자격이 있는지의 가능성에 초점을 맞추었다면, 본 연구는 시각적으로 드러난 애니메이션의 다양한 스타일이 어떻게 다큐멘터리적 의미와 결합하는지에 주목하고자 한다. 애니메이션 다큐멘터리라는 새로운 장르를 대변하며 주목받고 있는 로우(Roe)의 연구를 바탕으로, 애니메이션 다큐멘터리의 정의 및 분류를 개괄하고, 사례 연구로 공드리(Gondry)의 2013년 영화인 를 분석하였다.
