In high-technology industry, firm’s sustainable growth depends on its ability of successful innovation for value creation. Economic value from innovation can be made by collaboration with other organizations within or across industries. Innovation is a collective process in which firms interact with a variety of actors and organizational factors for developing, diffusing, and using new knowledge and technologies. Furthermore, innovation process has a dynamic nature. For example, a firm can expand its business capabilities beyond its own market by collaboration with others. The traditional systems approach on innovation lacks of explaining how the structure of the innovation systems influence innovative activities. In this regard, we take ecosystems approach to describe the dynamic nature of innovation. This study is the first approach for conceptualizing innovation ecosystems. We conduct a case study of multimedia home-network ecosystem, focusing on value co-creation among organizations in implementing innovation.
