The purpose of this study is to present the current status of Hangul Yeonhaengrok(燕行錄) materials collected up until now in collaborative research on Hangul Yeonhaengrok and what to be dealt with and how to use them afterwards. Yeonhaengrok materials have been constantly discovered and released by Im Gi-jung, So Jae-young, Kim Tae-jun, Choi Gang-hyeon, Jo Gyu-ik, Daedong Institute of Korean Studies, and other individual researchers. Based on that, a lot of study results of up to 200 theses have been submitted so far. Most of the research has focused on Chinese character-edition Yeonhaengrok to figure out the meaning of yeonhaeng, history of culture and history of exchange between the two countries found in Yeonhaengrok, aspects of experience in China through yeonhaeng, performing art found in Yeonhaengrok, and also the characteristics of Yeonhaengrok written by Bukhakpa(北學派) including Pak Ji-won(朴趾源). Also, lately, research on Yeonhaengrok conducted by academic circles in China and Japan is being added as well. There have been a lot of study results on Yeonhaengrok, but unfortunately, not much research on ‘Hangul Yeonhaengrok’ has been performed yet. Among the Hangul Yeonhaengrok, aside from Kim Chang-eop’s 『Yeonhaengilgi』, Hong Dae-yong’s 『Eulbyeong Yeonhaengrok』, and Pak Ji-won’s 『Yeolhailgi』, the rest have hardly been studied so far. Research on Hangul Yeonhaengrok is not enough like that because the materials discovered are few, and above all, it has not been fully discussed how to analyze and study those materials. Noticing such problems of ‘Hangul Yeonhaengrok’, this author studied the current status of Hangul Yeonhaengrok existing in both Korean and overseas institutions and libraries. As a result, this researcher has found there are Hangul Yeonhaengrok materials not yet introduced to academic circles and also how to deal with those materials afterwards. This study is going to handle the contents. First, this author will present the materials that have been secured and also how to study and utilize those materials afterwards especially in terms of history of classical literature, history of oral literature, or history of Korean.

이 글은 한글 연행록을 대상으로 한 공동연구에서, 지금까지 수집한 한글 연행록 자료의 현황과 차후 과제 및 활용 방안을 제시하는데 목표를 둔다. 연행록은 그동안 임기중, 소재영, 김태준, 최강현, 조규익, 성균관대 대동문화연구원과 기타 연구자들에 의하여 꾸준한 자료 발굴과 그에 따른 연구가 이루어져 현재까지 대략 200여 편에 연구 성과가 제출된 상황이다. 연행록 연구의 대부분은 한문본 연행록을 대상으로, 연행록 제작자의 탐색, 연행의 과정, 연행록을 통해서 제시한 중국 체험의 양상, 연행록에 나타난 양국의 문화사 및 교류사, 연행록에서 볼 수 있는 공연 예술, 박지원(朴趾源)을 비롯한 북학파(北學派)들의 연행록의 특성 등을 다루고 있다. 그리고 최근에는 국내 연구자만이 아닌 중국학계와 일본학계에서 이루어진 연행록 연구의 성과가 더해지는 상황이다. 이처럼 그동안 연행록에 대하여 많은 성과가 있었다. 그러나 미흡한 부분은 ‘한글 연행록’에 대한 연구가 거의 이루어지지 못했다는 점이다. 한글 연행록으로 알려진 김창업의 『연행일기』, 홍대용의 『을병연행록』, 박지원의 『열하일기』를 제외하면 나머지 연행록에 대한 연구는 찾아보기가 어려운 상황이다. 한글 연행록에 대한 연구가 이처럼 미진한 이유는 무엇보다 발굴된 자료의 양이 적은 탓도 있고, 자료에 대한 분석과 연구 방향이 충분히 논의되어 있지 않기 때문이다. 이 연구는 이러한 ‘한글 연행록’ 문제에 착안하여, 국내외 기관이나 도서관에 존재하는 한글 연행록을 발굴하는 작업을 진행했다. 그 결과 학계에 소개되지 않은 새로운 한글 연행록 자료도 확인할 수 있었고, 앞으로 이 자료를 어떻게 다루어야 할 것인지에 대한 방향도 생각해 보았다. 이 글은 이러한 내용들을 다룬 것으로, 먼저 그동안 확보했던 자료들을 제시하고, 차후 이 자료들을 특히 고전문학사, 구비문학사, 국어사에서 각각 어떻게 활용하고 연구할 것인가를 제시해 보고자 한다.
