This paper aims at understanding certain concrete development aspects in reconstruction of Old Chinese phonology through periodical principles of its research. It focuses on three points: First, it tries to shed light on the main methodology and the principal linguistic materials each period used; Second, it tries to find out why and how some languages survived but not others; and Last, it introduces some trendy issues in the study of Old Chinese phonology. The history of Old Chinese phonology is, in a way, the history of its research. Korea and China are neighbors and they had a long history of linguistic exchange. So far, we didn’t see much contributing materials from the Korean side. However, the colloquial side of the Korea language (as opposed to written) still provides a promising source of contribution to the Old Chinese phonology research. International networking and cooperation among researchers will become more important in the future.

이 논문은 시대를 거치며 상고 중국어 음운 재구 연구 원리가 발전되어 온 양상을 살펴보고 그 의의를 해석하는 데에 목적을 두고 있다. 상고 중국어 음운 연구의 역사는 바로 연구사의 역사로 이해될 수 있기 때문이다. 새로운 연구 원리를 토대로 한국어 자료들이 중국어 상고음 연구에 기여할 수 있는 방안을 제시한다.
