With the rapid growth of the Chinese economy, the environmental problem is becoming serious day by day. The environmental issues such as yellow dust, microdust, marine pollution are providing a serious damage to South Korea. Chinese government has recognized the problems and began to strengthen the environmental regulations, and recently the government announced the green growth as one of the national development strategies. Even though China has a series of regulations on environmental protection, the practical aspect is very weak. Mutual cooperation between Korea and China appears to be very important in solving environmental problems. The number of China's FTA which entered into force is fourteen, but amongst them, only China-Switzerland FTA and Korea-China FTA include the environment chapter. In the case of South Korea, it has a high level of environmental protection commitments in the FTAs signed with the developed countries such as the US and EU. This paper compared and analyzed the environment chapter of Korea-US FTA, Korea-EU FTA, China-Switzerland FTA and Korea-China FTA so as to make implications for the two states' environment cooperation.

오늘날 중국경제의 급속한 성장에 따라 환경문제가 나날이 심각해지고 있다. 중국의 황사, 미세먼지, 해양오염 등 환경문제는 인접국가인 한국에도 심각한 피해를 주고 있다. 중국정부도 자국의 환경오염문제를 인식하고 환경법규를 정비 중에 있으며, 최근에는 녹색발전을 국가발전전략으로 부상시켰다. 그러나 중국이 환경보호에 관한 일련의 규정을 갖추고 있다고 하여도 실천적인 측면은 매우 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 환경문제해결에 있어 중국과의 협력이 매우 중요한 것으로 나타난다. 현재 중국의 발효된 FTA는 총 14개에 달하지만 그중에 환경챕터를 포함한 FTA는 중-스위스 FTA와 한-중 FTA 두 개뿐이다. 한국의 경우, 미국이나 EU와 같은 환경선진국들과 맺은 FTA에 수준 높은 환경보호 약속을 하고 있다. 그러므로 이 글에서는 한-미 FTA, 한-EU FTA 및 중-스위스 FTA의 환경챕터와 한-중 FTA의 환경과 무역 챕터의 주요내용을 비교·분석하여, 한-중 양국의 향후의 환경협력 등 측면에 관한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.
