It is a real situation that government is enforcing some policies such as public assistance, public pension, and social welfare service against aging society. Nevertheless they are not sufficient to solve the senior problems. The short of resources for the elderly’s needs is one of the major social problems. And therefore the role of church which have resources like human, material, and facility in the community would become more important than ever. Recently Korean churches for the severe senior problems of aging society are interested in the aspect of social welfare and trying in various aspects. But most of Korean churches are faced with lots of difficulties in senior welfare work mission. The reason is because there are strewn with the senior problems on aging society, so it is difficult to deal exclusively church. So, the use of facilities, personnel and material resources of the church will be a new missionary responsibility for church and can be utilized as an opportunity to cover the social responsibility for the short of senior’s needs due to problems of the elderly and welfare resources in the national level. And therefore this study wished to present the current status and problems of aging society and analyzed the possible resources of church. Based on these, this study was trying to provide the basic data which can seek the efficient ways of the senior welfare work mission as Christian missionary church having human, material, and facility resources in the community. It needs church’s change through opening the church’s resources by attitude that help absorb and served the elderly and training experts in order to the senior welfare work mission has been activated.

정부는 고령화 사회에 대응하기 위해 공공부조, 사회보험, 사회서비스 등을 시행하고 있지만, 증가하는 노인문제를 해결하기에는 아직 충분하지 못하며 미미한 수준에 그치고 있다. 고령화 사회의 주요한 사회문제 중의 하나로서 노인의 욕구를 채워줄 자원의 부족을 들 수 있다. 이에 지역사회에 인적, 물적, 시설 자원을 가지고 있는 교회의 역할이 그 어느 때보다 중요한 시점이다. 최근 고령화 사회의 심각한 노인문제에 대해 교회에서는 사회복지적 대응에 관심을 갖고 다양한 측면에서 노력하고 있으나, 대부분의 한국교회들은 노인복지 선교에 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 그 이유는 고령화 사회에 있어 노인문제는 다양하고 복합적인 요소들이 산재해 있으며, 이를 교회 단독으로 이를 해결하는 것은 제한적이기 때문이다. 이와 같은 노인문제로 인한 노인들의 욕구 불충족 및 국가 차원에서의 복지자원의 부족현상에 대해 교회의 시설, 인적, 물적 자원의 활용은 교회 측면에서는 새로운 선교적 사명이며 사회에 대한 책임을 감당할 수 있는 기회로 활용할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구는 고령화 사회에 따른 현황 및 문제점을 제시하고, 교회의 활용 가능한 자원을 분석하였다. 이를 토대로 지역사회에 인적, 물적, 시설 자원을 가지고 있는 기독교의 선교공동체로서 교회의 노인복지 선교가 더욱 효율적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 사업의 방법을 모색할 수 있는 기초적인 자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 변화하는 사회구조로 인한 고령화 사회의 진입과 정부와 민간시설의 부족한 자원 등의 시대적 환경과 예수 그리스도의 노인복지 선교의 사명을 교회가 능동적으로 실천하기 위해서는 전문인 양성과 외롭고 고독한 노인들을 끌어안고 섬겨주는 자세로 교회내의 모든 인적, 물적, 시설 자원을 개방하여 노인복지 선교가 활성화될 수 있도록 교회가 변화되어야 한다.
