The purpose of the research is to demonstrate the conceptual frame of 'parentology' as the adult learning, differentiating from existing parent education, or parenting, or science of parenting. It attempts to provide theoretical and practical strategies to be happy parents. These includes understanding theories and practices of parents' development process and tasks, and performance of those tasks as adult learners, in addition to traditional and current researches and programs focusing on nurturing children. The results of the research are expected to be helpful for the parents to develop their lives more self-directed as adult learners and to accompany with children in their happy lifelong journey, as well take responsibilities and burdens of raising children. And further research and program development efforts for the parentology as philosophy, performing theory, and practical strategies for being parent are also expected.

본 연구의 목적은 성인학습학으로서의 부모학을 소개하면서 기존의 부모교육, 부모되기와 차별화된 개념적 틀을 제공하고 구체적인 발달과업 수행전략을 제시하는데 있다. 기존의 부모교육에서 자녀양육에만 치중함으로 인해 부모들 자신의 삶의 중반, 후반기에 어려움을 겪게 되는 문제점들을 해결하기 위해, 자녀양육을 위한 부모교육에 대한 연구와 수행 프로그램들의 내용에 더하여, 성인학습자로서의 부모 자신들의 성장과 발달과업을 이해하고 이러한 과제들을 수행함으로써 보다 행복한 부모되기를 실천할 수 있는 부모학의 수행 전략을 제시하였다. 이러한 접근을 통해 부모들이 자녀양육에 대한 책임과 부담감을 안고 가되, 전환학습을 통한 성인학습자로서 자신들의 삶 역시 자기주도적으로 만들어 감으로써 자녀들과의 행복한 동행을 이어갈 수 있기를 바란다. 아울러 부모학이 바람직한 부모되기의 철학과 수행 이론 및 실천전략으로서 지속적으로 연구개발 되기를 기대한다.
