Based on the related theories of Ekphrasis and the scattering evidences in Yeats’s poems, essays, autobiographies and letters, the paper discusses how Yeats’s “Lapis Lazuli” reflects traditional Chinese aesthetics as in Chinese classical poetry and landscape paintings, particularly in Taoism. Yeats used Chinese classic poetry and landscape paintings as media to conduct dialogue with the heterogeneous Chinese culture, which he borrowed to search ways out of the western dilemma.
