We aim at fathoming what roles philosophy in general and ontology can play in the study of Baduk terms as a case study in terminology conceived as a subfield of knowledge engineering. For this purpose, we examine definitions of Baduk terms found in Nam's Contemporary Go Terms against the background of typical philosophical problems raised by definitions. We want to suggest that the possibility of real definitions should not be excluded in the future study of Baduk terms.

지식공학의 한 분과로 파악된 전문용어학 분야에서 바둑용어 연구를 하나의 사례 연구로 삼을 경우 철학 일반과 존재론이 어떠한 역할을 감당할 수 있을지를 가늠해보는 데 본 논문의 궁극적 목표가 있다. 이를 위해 특히 정의가 제기하는 철학적 문제들을 배경 삼아 남치형의 Contemporary Go Terms에 등장하는 바둑용어들의 정의를 검토하고자 한다. 사전적 정의와 약정적 정의 이외에 향후 바둑 용어 연구에서 실재적 정의의 가능성을 배제해서는 안 된다는 점을 시사하고자 한다.
