This thesis reviewed bilingual dictionaries with Korean content compiled between the late 19th Century and 1910. It introduced small amounts of bibliographic data, locations of copies, the statuses of reprinted materials (including digitalized materials), and the current situation of research, which are related to 10 Korean-French, Russian, English, and Latin dictionaries. In addition, based on the pieces of information it discussed how to utilize these dictionaries as lexical research materials. The dictionaries, published when Korean monolingual dictionaries did not exist, are not only good materials that can be used to look at the status of the Korean vocabulary of the time period but materials that can be used to reveal the status of cultural exchanges through words. To utilize properly the dictionaries with such values, it suggests that we first have a broader understanding of each bilingual dictionary, and then closely review the words in the dictionaries.

이 논문에서는 19세기 후반부터 1910년 사이에 편찬된, 한국어가 포함된 이중어 사전을 검토하였는데, 한국어와 프랑스어, 러시아어, 영어, 라틴어를 대역한 10종의 사전을 대상으로 각각 간략한 서지 사항, 소장처, 디지털 변환 자료를 포함한 영인 현황과 연구 현황을 소개하였다. 또한 이를 토대로 이들 사전을 어휘 연구 자료로서 어떻게 활용할 것인지를 논의하였다. 한국어 단일어 사전이 없던 시기에 나온 이들 사전은 당대 한국어 어휘의 양상을 살필 좋은 자료이면서 어휘를 통한 문화 간 교류의 양상을 밝힐 수 있는 자료이기도 하다. 이러한 가치가 있는 사전을 제대로 이용하기 위해서는 먼저 각각의 대역사전에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓혀야 하고 사전에 실린 단어들을 정밀하게 검토할 필요가 있다고 보았다.
