Japanese Period Film has reflected emotionn and traditional values, human relations of the Japanese for a long time. I examined the trend of change on the 21C period films. As a result of the analysis on remake films, two different aspects are emerged. Those are variation and convergence of the point of view to community organization and human relations(belonged organization and vertical relationship) that the Japanese have regarded as being accustomed and a matter of course. On some films there are found the characters and messages that are freed from the fixed paradigm. On the other hand, many films reveal the traditional properties being maintained or reinforced. To some degree that can be understood as two aspects that the change affected from modern competitive society and global culture and the preservation affected from traditional culture and period film genre.

일본의 시대극 영화는 오랫동안 일본인들의 정서나 가치관, 인간관계 등을 반영해 왔다. 21세기에 만들어진 시대극 영화를 통해 변화와 유지의 양상을 살펴보았다. 리메이크 작품 중심의 시대극 영화 분석 결과, 두 가지 상이한 양상을 볼 수 있었다. 일본인이 전통적으로 익숙하며 당연하다고 생각해 온 공동체적 조직과 인간관계, 즉 ‘바’와 ‘다테’관계를 바라보는 시각에 있어서의 변주와 수렴이 그것이다. 몇몇 작품들에서 그러한 고정적인 패러다임을 벗어나는 캐릭터와 메시지를 발견할 수 있었지만, 반면에 많은 수의 작품에서는 여전히 과거의 속성을 유지 혹은 강화시키고 있다. 시대극 영화에서 읽어 낸 일본인들의 소속 집단에 대한 가치관이나 인간관계의 양상은 변주와 수렴의 두 가지가 혼재해 있는 상황이라고 보인다. 이는 일정 부분 현대의 경쟁 사회와 글로벌 문화의 영향을 받아 변화하는 것(변주)과, 전통적이며 익숙한 인간관계의 틀과 인식의 유지, 장르적 속성 유지(수렴)라는 양면으로 해석할 수 있다.
