The thesis mainly discussed the correlation dimension and the association strength of the focus operator “even” in “NP1 + even + V (past tense) + NP2” Sentence pattern, including “He even kissed Wang”. The part of speech of focus operator “or even” is seen as adverb, and the syntactic function is seen as adverbial. Its semantic feature is “to explain what the predicate state is a prominent, even extreme situation”. It’s “the vocabulary tag of anti-expected and subjective expression”. “Or even” may relate to “NP1, even, V, NP2 and VP” and other related items in different context. Associating with the different related items, it highlights the semantic focus, and preset the focus domain. The thesis also analyzed the three related dimensions (left direction association, right direction association, in situ association) of the focus operator “even”. And further analyzed that there are strength differences between the focus operator “even” and the associated possible focus ingredients“NP1, Even, V, NP2 and VP”. The association strength is expressed as “V›NP2 VP Even NP1” from strong to weak. Thus affected the associated select tendency between focus operator and the focuses.
