Recently, Japan changes their law for the arms export. They can significantly enhance the level of defense technology. Japanese Technical Research and Development Institute (TRDI) has a key role for the research and development of Japanese weapon system. They set a future technical goal of weapon system through the ‘Medium to Long-Term Defense Technology Outlook’. In this study, we analyzed the technical goal for defense through the ‘2007 Medium to Long-Term Defense Technology Outlook’. The technical research and development trends for weapon system also analyzed through the 2014 TRDI budget summary and FY2015 budget request of TRDI. Further, we expect the current technology level of Japan from the study of 2014 TRDI Symposium for Defense Technology, the 2014 publication list of TRDI. In conclusion, Japan enhances their own technology for defense from the research and development on their own capability and international corporation.

본 논문은 아베 내각의 방산 수출 장려정책으로 국제협력 및 공동개발을 가속화하고 있는 일본 방위산업 기술의 현재 수준과 연구개발 동향을 조사 및 분석하여 한국 정부 및 국내 방위산업체의 연구개발 관련 대응전략을 도출하는데 적절한 정보를 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 조사 및 분석은 일본 방위기술연구소의 조직 및 발간된 중장기 기술견적을 토대로 장래 연구개발 대상 기술 및 무기체계에 대해 분석하고, 현재 방위산업기술에 대한 연구개발 활동 및 관련 예산을 비교분석하여, 일본 정부의 방위산업기술 관련 정책 및 전략을 파악하였다.
