Recently charitable donations became a cultural phenomenon in our society. It has been spreading to the sports industry with sport athletes as the central figure. However this is not just about the cultural phenom enon of sports itself, rather it is a phenomenon that reflects the social conditions. Thus, the current study f ocused on examining the following themes: 1) analyze the forms and types of charitable donations by sport athletes; 2) provide understandings of the phenomenon from the sociological perspectives; and 3) suggest the directions of sport athletes’ charitable donations as an appropriate cultural practice. Since it is time for our society to grow and mature in terms of donation culture, charitable donations by sport athletes is the most i nfluential type of donations in our society that could have a great ripple effect. Therefore, if the field of s port provides more positive donations that is reflective and morally considerable, we could expect charitable donation to take root as a cultural practice.
