The purpose of this study was to examine how music therapy is implemented in hospice setting and to investigate into medical personnel’s recognition, comprehension, and expectation of hospice music therapy. The subjects were ninety medical personnels from ten medical institutes which is providing hospice care. The study results are as follows. First, music therapy was conducted in eight medical institutes out of ten. Among them, eight medical institutes employed music therapists as part time job and some institutes didn't be provided with facilities, such as instruments and session room. Most of institutes provided group session, which is not effective to the terminally ill patient. Second, the medical personnel, who observed hospice music therapy and worked in institutes which are providing hospice music therapy, had higher recognition on the goal of music therapy. Third, there was a difference of comprehension on the goal of music therapy depending on experiences whether observed music therapy or not, and depending on institute whether provided music therapy or not. Finally, the medical personnel who observed hospice music therapy and worked in institutes which are providing hospice music therapy had higher expectation about fostering music therapist.

본 연구의 목적은 국내 호스피스 환경에서 수행되는 음악치료 현황과 관련 의료인의 인지도, 이해도, 기대도를 알아보기 위한 것으로 국내 호스피스 완화의료를 시행하는 10개 기관과, 이 기관에 종사하는 관련 의사 및 간호사 90인을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조사된 10개 기관 중 8개 기관이 호스피스 음악치료를 실시하고 있었다. 그 중 8개 기관은 음악치료사를 비정규직으로 고용하였으며, 몇몇 기관은 악기나 음악치료실을 제공하지 않았다. 또한 대부분의 기관이 종말기 환자에게 효과적이지 못한 그룹 세션을 시행하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 호스피스 음악치료를 참관한 의료인과 음악치료 실시 기관에 종사하는 의료인은 음악치료의 필요성에 대한 인지도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 호스피스 음악치료 참관 경험과 음악치료 실시 기관 종사 여부에 따라 호스피스 음악치료의 목적에 대한 이해도에 차이를 보였다. 넷째, 호스피스 음악치료를 참관한 의료인과 음악치료 실시 기관에 종사하는 의료인들은 호스피스 의료 환경에서 전문 음악치료사의 활발한 양성에 대한 기대도가 높은 것으로 나타났다.
