The space inside ceiling which is also called "ceiling" has been known as the ignition point of small and large fire. In this space of the ordinary buildings or factory building, numerous wires and utilities are accommodated complexly and the dust settled on serve the ignition factor. This study is intended to analyze the cases of the fire started inside the ceiling and rapidly developed and moreover, the test to compare the combustion speed depending on inflammables so as to conduct the fire hazard analysis and combustion diffusion speed and propose the countermeasures. Many electrical facilities including various lighting, audio and ventilation systems are accommodated inside the ceiling of the commercial and other buildings and expanded polystyrene is used for insulation purpose. And leftover pieces after work are abandoned inside the ceiling which would serve the inflammables. This space inside the ceiling is excluded from the zone subject to current Fire Service Act, making it more vulnerable to the fire because of late detection. After fabricating a 5m-sized test model and filling with inflammables inside, test was conducted and as a result, combustion started from the top of ignition point in 14 minutes which was rapidly developed to the whole set within 2 minutes. Viewing the result, it's important to remove the leftover pieces after work and fire detection device in a bid to detect it at early stage of the fire needs to be considered more carefully.
