When only domestic traffic was checked, Joun-system(marine traffic system with public boat) was recorded in comparative detail and moving objects were mentioned many times. Traffic road was also described in a portion of the textbook, but there was no attention to traffic system. Of course, road subsidiary facility and national traffic policy were hardly ever mentioned from the textbook. Regarding chronological traffic excluding the traffic of the late Joseon dynasty, its related contents were not sufficient. The current textbook seemed to be improved in many ways by adding important contents about traffic history or by adding a little bit of supplementary explanation into the current description. In particular, as for article describing the life of the time, contents related to traffic should be absolutely written in the textbook. Looking at the bigger picture, the importance of traffic should be very prominent. Specially, a fact that traffic road took a role of artery and nerve for running the country was not clearly described. It should be emphasized that the movement and exchange of human beings, goods, and culture had been actively proceeded due to the development of traffic, such movement and exchange led the decrease of cultural difference feeling and regional difference in cultural level, and they caused for all members to have the feeling of unity. Additionally, high school Korean history textbook should absolutely include a fact that the effective running of local administration system and the smooth national administration were related closely to the development of transportation.

본고는 고등학교 한국사 교과서 전근대부분에서 교통사 관련한 내용을 검토하고 분석하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 교과서에서 교통사 관련한 내용은, 도로, 교통수단, 이동 대상물, 도로의 부대시설, 그리고 국가의 교통정책 등 5개의 범주를 중심으로 파악할 수 있다. 그리고 대상 지역은 국내만이 아니라 외국을 포함한다. 국내 교통에 한정해 보면 조운제가 비교적 빠짐없이 기록되어 있으며, 이동의 대상물이 많이 언급되어 있다. 부분적으로 교통로에 대해서도 서술하고 있지만 교통의 수단에 대해서는 관심을 별로 기울이고 있지 않다. 당연히 교통로상의 부대시설이나 국가의 교통 정책에 대해서 거의 언급이 이루어지지 않았다. 시기적으로 보면 교통과 관련한 내용은 조선후기를 제외하면 풍부하지 못하다고 판단된다. 현재의 교과서는 교통사에 관해 중요한 사항을 추가하거나 기존의 서술에 약간의 설명을 가하는 방법으로 개선할 여지는 매우 많아 보인다. 특히 생활상을 기술하는 항목에서는 교통에 관한 내용을 적극 기술하는 것이 바람직하다고 생각된다거시적으로 볼 때 교통이 갖는 중요성을 적극 부각시킬 필요가 있다. 특히 교통로가 국가 운영의 동맥이고 신경이라는 사실이 명확하게 제시되고 있지 못하다. 교통이 발달하였기 때문에 사람과 물화ㆍ문화의 이동과 교류가 활발할 수 있었으며, 이것이 문화의 이질감이 적고 지역간 문화 수준의 차이가 크지 않게 하며, 나아가 전체 구성원이 강한 일체감을 가질 수 있게 하였다는 점을 강조할 필요가 있다. 그리고 지방행정제도를 효율적으로 운영할 수 있었다는 사실, 또 국가 경영을 원활하게 할 수 있었다는 사실도 교통의 발달과 깊은 관련을 갖는다는 점을 분명하게 드러낼 필요가 있다.
