While rearing a female Laticauda semifasciata, an unrecorded sea snake species in Korea and collected at Jeju waters on Aug 27, 2015, in an aquarium in the laboratory between Aug 28 and Nov 12, 2015, we have studied activity patterns of the sea snake. In addition, we have classified the fish preys that the snake regurgitated during its collection and transportation. The fish preys were identified as Chromis notatus, Halichoeres tenuispinis, and Pseudolabrus sieboldi. In the aquarium, L. semifasciata started daily activity at 9PM and its peak activity was observed approximately at 5AM. The ending time of activity was positively correlated with daily sunrise time and water temperature, but negatively with daily sunset time. Laticauda semifasciata did not show preference between salt and fresh waters during its activities. The snake preferred the shelter placed in the fresh water side, but when water temperature was different, the snake preferred high temperature side regardless of its water salinity. Before and after fish meals, activity of the snake was not significantly changed. Although we used one female snake and observed their activities in laboratory aquarium, our results as the first activity report on any sea snakes in Korea could be very useful for the field survey and life history study of sea snakes in Korean waters.

국내 미기록 큰바다뱀아과 종으로 2015년 8월 27일 제 주바다에서 채집된 넓은띠큰바다뱀(Chinese sea snake, Laticauda semifasciata) 암컷 1마리를 실험실 내 수족관 에서 2015년 8월 28일부터 11월 12일까지 77일간 사육 하면서 행동양상을 연구하였다. 더불어 바다뱀 개체 의 포획과 운반 중 게워낸 먹이원인 어류를 동정하였 다. 넓은띠큰바다뱀이 게워낸 물고기는 자리돔(Chromis notatus), 놀래기(Halichoeres tenuispinis), 황놀래기(Pseudolabrus sieboldi) 이었다. 수족관 내에서 넓은띠큰바다뱀 은 저녁 9시에 활동을 시작하였으며, 최대 활동은 새벽 5시경에 나타났다. 활동시작시간이나 활동시간길이는 관련이 없었으나, 활동종료시간은 일출시간과 양의 상 관, 일몰시간과 음의 상관을 보였다. 또한, 수온이 높을 수록 활동종료시간이 빨라졌다. 넓은띠큰바다뱀은 담 수와 해수 지역에서 활동정도가 차이 나지는 않았지만, 쉬는 장소로는 담수 지역을 선호하였으며, 온도가 낮아 지는 경우 염도와 상관없이 높은 온도지역을 선호하였 다. 강제먹이 급여 전후 활동성의 차이는 없었다. 비록 실험실 내 수족관에서 1마리의 넓은띠큰바다뱀으로 실 험을 수행하였지만, 본 연구결과는 국내 최초의 바다뱀 행동 연구결과로 국내 바다뱀의 야외 조사 및 생활사 연구에 중요한 자료로 이용될 것으로 판단된다.
