Medical tourism market has the high added value and the high growth potential in tourism market among the various forms of our country's tourism industry. Considering the medical skill level and the infrastructure potential, the medical tourism can be activated significantly but the real situation is not so much due to the various environmental conditions. The purpose of this study to suggest a proposal to activate the medical tourism in Korea, considering the current situation which the insufficient efforts and cooperation among industry, academia and government in spite of increasing demand of the medical tourism. The analysis of national practices and cases of the countries were identified as the need of related institutional and regulatory work, lack of specialized human resources and infrastructure result in insufficient medical tourism. Therefore, we propose the suggestion to promote medical tourism in Korea that can solve these problems.

우리나라의 다양한 관광산업 형태 중에서 부가가치가 높으며, 성장 가능성이 큰 관광시장이 의료관광시장이다. 우리나라의 의료기술 수준과 잠재적인 인프라를 고려할 때 의료관광시장이 크게 활성화할 수 있는 잠재력을 가지고 있으나, 여러 가지 환경여건상 그러하지 못한 실정이 다. 이에 본 연구는 국내의 의료관광 수요가 점차 증가하고 있으나 이에 대한 국가적 차원에 서의 노력과 산업계 및 학계의 협력도 미흡한 실정임을 고려하여 이에 대한 활성화 방안을 제 안하고자 한다. 주요 국가들의 사례와 국내 자료를 분석하면 관련제도와 법규미비, 전문 인력 양성의 부족, 의료관광 인프라 구축이 미흡한 것으로 파악되었다. 따라서 이러한 문제점을 개 선할 수 있는 한국의 의료관광산업의 활성화 방안을 제안하고자 하였다. 융복합화의 일환으로 의료관광이 관광객에게는 차별화되고 전문화된 욕구를 충족시킬 수 있는 부분을 제공하고 나 아가 관광산업 구조의 다변화와 관광업계의 고부가가치화를 촉진하여 우리나라 관광산업의 긍 정적인 파급효과를 가져 올 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
