The Effect of Yoga Therapy for Athletic Performance of Taekwondo Poomsae Athletes Aerobics

This study is to explore the effect of Yoga theraphy for athletic performance of Taekwondo Poomsae athletics. Based on the experience of the researcher who used to be a Tawkwondo athlete in the past and exploiting his advantage of being a professional Yoga trainer and practicing Taekwondo Poomsae at the same time, he conducted trainings once a week for 12 weeks among Poomsae Athletes which taught five movements of Yoga therapy which are expected to be helpful in improving their athletic performances and examined their improvements according to ① standing, ② hand gesture and ③ kicking. First of all, when looking at the results of how Yoga therapy affected Taekwondo Poomsae standing, hand gesture and kicking, it turned out that it had the most positive effect in the kicking sector. Second, regarding the Yoga therapy that was conducted in this research, most Taekwondo Poomsae athletes argue that their athletic performance will be improved, and wish to be conducted in a long term instead of in short term. However, there was also a concern of degrading senses of Poomsae movement that one had been keeping due to excessive stretching movements or joint laxity. Third, it turned out that it is important to conduct Yoga therapy with experts in a correct posture and there could be a potential danger of injury if the therapy is conducted in a wrong posture. The study showed that the overall posture of Poomsae could be balanced through correcting body forms Fourth, the study showed that Yoga therapy should be devised regarding the link between specific Taekwondo Poomsae movements. Instead of focusing the improvement of overall flexibility of Taekwondo Poomsae athletes, there should be Yoga therapy that can enhance athletic capability of main movements in every Poomsae. Fifth, through Yoga therapy, there were effects regarding Poomsae athletes’ flexibility, physical strength, preventing injury and rehabilitation stretching. Overall, in order to enhance athletic performance of Taekwondo Poomsae athletes, there should be various training methods from now on.
