In this study, logical feature which consisted of the Theory of Form of Things and its real case is examined by reviewing Feng shui maps and related literatures. Theory of Form of Things Image(物形論), which is also called the Hyeong Guk Non(形局論) or the Gal Hyeong Non(喝形論), is logically base on｢Xi Ci Chuan I (繫辭傳 上)｣of the book, 『Zhouyi(周易)』. And 『Wu Li Lun(物理論)』of Yang Quan(楊泉) and 『Zang Jing Yi(葬經翼)of Miao Xi-yong(繆希雍) provides specific arguments with which the Theory of Thing`s Image can be explained. Andthe theory can be applied actually with 『Yu Sui Zhen Jing(玉髓眞經)』of Zi Wei-zi(張子微). The Theory of Thing`s Image provides various merit and potential. And it enlarges the scope of thinking and suggests guide for multilayered thinking by making compare topographic shape of nature with human and animal. However, it is still difficult to accept its logical and theoretical expression. It has tended to be instinctively and empirically estimated by a specific person. And to do so, the result has been uncritically accepted and used for very mysterious one. Thus, it is necessary to establish the rationality of the Theory of Form of Things into the general logical scope with continuous study. So to speak, in order to reveal merits from Feng shui, it is necessary to complement sufficient logicality and scientific characteristic. And today is also the day of modernizing Feng shui from its content creation. With its pictorial factor, the Theory of Form of Things can be used for storytelling, which can be utilized as a crucial factor for its modernization.

본 연구는 물형론을 구성한 논리적 특징과 실제사례를 산도와 문헌고찰을 통해 살펴본다. 물형론은 형국론 혹은 갈형론이라 불리는데,『주역』「계사전 상」의 논리를 바탕에 두고 있다면, 양천(楊泉)의『물리론(物理論)』과 무희옹(繆希雍)의『장경익(葬經翼)』은 물형론을 설명할 수 있는 구체적 논거를 제시하였다. 또한 물형론은 장자미(張子微)의『옥수진경(玉髓眞經)』에 의해 본격적으로 활용성과 논리성을 갖기 시작하였다. 물형론은 다양한 장점과 가능성을 가지고 있으며, 자연의 형상을 사람 혹은 동물등과 같은 모습에 비유하는 등, 사고의 범위를 넓히고 다양한 사고를 할 수 있는 근거를 제시하는 모습을 보인다. 하지만 아직 이론적으로나 논리적으로 무장하는데 부족한 모습이다. 또한 어떤 특정인이 자신의 경험 혹은 감각적인 특징을 바탕으로 물형론에 입각한 혈명을 제시한 것을 무비판적으로 수용하고, 이를 굉장히 신비한 요소처럼 활용한 측면이 강하다. 따라서 지속적인 연구를 통해 물형론이 갖는 다양한 합리성을 논리적 틀 속에 정리할 필요성이 크다. 풍수가 가진 다양한 장점을 부각시키기 위해서는 보다 발전된 논리와 과학성의 보완이 필요하다. 뿐만 아니라 콘텐츠 개발을 통한 풍수의 현대화는 절대 필요한 시점에 와 있는데, 물형론은 회화적인 요소와 아울러 스토리텔링의 영역까지도 그 범위를 넓힐 수 있다는 점에서 현대화의 중요한 요소로 활용가능하다.
