Recently, the demand for executive coaching has rapidly increased among firms in the Korean market. Based on literature reviews of previous studies on executive coaching, this study illustrates a definition of executive coaching, introduces recent global trends and finally suggests key antecedents to effective coaching for Korean firms. This study suggests several key antecedents for executive coaching effectiveness which are as follows: coaches who coordinate the entire process of coaching and ask critical questions, coachees who are directly involved in learning and behavioural changes caused by coaching, coaching context such as the socio-psychological factors supporting the relationship between coach and coachee and the match between the coach and coachee, the degree of complications of coaching problems, and finally the extent of support of the organization are suggested.

최근 국내에서도 비즈니스 코칭에 대한 수요가 급속하게 확산하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 비즈니스 코칭의 개념을 정리하고, 코칭 산업의 최근 트렌드를 소개하고 과거 문헌을 체계적으로 정리하여 코칭에 있어서 성공 요소가 무엇인지를 분석하여 향후 글로벌을 지향하는 한국 기업이 코칭을 어떻게 활용할지에 대한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 전반적인 코칭의 프로세스를 관리하고 적절한 질문을 이끌어 내는 코치의 특성, 학습과 리더십 변화의 당사자인 피코치자의 특성, 코치와 피코치자의 관계에 중요한 신뢰, 협력 등의 사회 심리적인 요소, 코치와 피코치자의 이상적인 매칭 등 코칭 프로세스를 둘러싼 환경 요소, 코칭의 이슈의 복잡함/문제점의 정도, 조직의 지원 등을 코칭의 성공에 끼치는 중요한 요소로 제시하였다.
