The purpose of this study was to develop teacher's self-assessment scale and to propose the procedure for improving the quality of teaching activity. The reason for self-assessment for teachers is to encourage and sustain professional growth.
As professional educators, teachers are constantly evaluating themselves as they interact with peers and students. It is useful and necessary as well to practice periodically in a more formal process and procedure that gives teachers opportunity to reflect on recognized excellence in teaching activity. In this point of view, if it is allowed to activate in positive school environment, self-assessment as a part of teacher evaluation can be the most powerful force available to teachers to improve teaching behavior, strategy, technique and to support an internal drive in all teachers to constantly improve their teaching professionalism.
Although the self-assessment scale and procedure in this study wasn't be verified the feasibility in school, it will can be helpful to beginning teachers and experienced teachers those who have need to develop and improve their teaching performance competence.

본 연구는 학교 현장 교사들이 자기평가를 통하여 교수활동의 질을 개선할 수 있는 척도와 절차를 제안하는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다. 교사들에게 있어서 자기평가는 자신의 교수활동에 대한 전문성을 신장시키고 유지하기 위한 필수적인 활동으로 볼 수 있다. 전문성을 지향하는 한 주체로서 교사는 동료교사, 학생 등과 부단한 상호작용을 하는 가운데 지속적으로 자기 자신을 평가하는 활동을 한다. 이런 측면에서 정기적으로 자신이 전개하는 교수활동의 질에 대해 반성할 기회를 갖는 것은 매우 유용하고 필수적인 요소라 할 수 있다. 비록 본 연구에서 제안하고 있는 자기평가의 절차나 척도가 교육 현장에서의 적용가능성에 대한 충분한 검증을 거친 것은 아니지만, 교육 현장의 초임교사는 물론 경력교사의 교수활동의 질 개선을 위한 노력에 일부분이나마 적절하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
