As the competition of multinational corporations in the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India, China) became severe, the post-BRICs, as an alternative emerging markets to the BRICs, has recently attracted the interest of multinational corporations and investors. It is essential for Korea to enter into the group of developed countries to make a strategic effort to explore new export markets such as post-BRICs. There is no consensus concerning which countries should be included in the group of the post-BRICs. Nevertheless, we can notice that Turkey is commonly listed even in the various definitions of the post-BRICs thanks to its significance of geopolitics, market potential, availability for a bridgehead to big neighboring market that are the major characteristics the newly emerging markets should possess. In this study, we try to make a first step to explore the strategy for entering the market by examining the current economic situations and future prospects of Turkey.

1970년대 후반 이래 각국 정부는 시장 개방정책을 추진했으며 이로 인해 여러 나라에서 관세를 낮추고, 외국 투자를 허용하자 다국적 기업과 투자자들은 해외로 대거 진출 했다. 이러한 현상과 더불어 1980년대 후반 제 3세계의 부정적 의미 대신 긍정적 의미를 내포하는 신흥시장 (emerging market)이란 용어가 등장 했다. 현재 글로벌 기업들의 경쟁이 가장 치열한 신흥시장은 브라질, 러시아, 인도, 중국을 포함하는 브릭스(BRICs)를 들 수 있다. 그러나 글로벌 기업들의 경쟁이 치열해지면서 이를 대체하는 새로운 신흥시장 개척에 전 세계인의 이목이 집중되고 있고 브릭스에 집중되었던 국제투자 흐름도 점차 다른 신흥시장으로 다각화되고 있다. 그러므로 우리 경제가 지속적으로 성장하고 우리나라가 본격적으로 선진국 그룹에 진입하기 위해서는 ‘포스트 브릭스’를 통한 새로운 수출시장을 개척하는 전략적 노력이 필요하다. 이러한 새로운 신흥시장에 포함된 나라 중 터키는 유망한 신흥시장이 가져야 할 보편적인 필수조건인 지정학적 중요성, 시장잠재력, 거대시장 진출 교두보 등을 고루 갖추고 있는 것으로 평가할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 터키의 경제 현황과 전망을 살펴봄으로써 효과적인 對 터키 진출을 위한 방안을 모색 하는 데 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다.
