Background It is fire hydrant that is the representative fire extinguishing facilities required for initial fire extinguishing. However, there seems to be difficulties for ordinary people to use it easily. So, the researcher searched for the design plan that can find and solve the problems. Methods The questionnaire survey was carried out first. The questionnaire consist of the questions about the recognition of ordinary people against fire hydrant and requirements for improving the design of fire hydrant in large. With regards to searching for design plan based on the results of questionnaire, it was carried out by dividing the theme into functionality, usability and accessibility in large. Result The first, the nozzle was designed to capable of direct and curved jetting along the situation regarding the functionality. The hose solved the freezing problem that is the weak point of hose reel fire hydrant b inserting heating cable partially. Second, it was designed to aim the point source of fire origin by attaching the knob to the nozzle as well as bending it to decrease the strong repulsive force of nozzle part when jetting water regarding usability. And the rotation of entire hose reel was designed to be used easily by extruding that completely from the fire hydrant box. Third, it was designed to discriminate a thing according to 'standard of installing indoor fire hydrant facilities' regarding the accessibility. Fourth, the curved line was emphasized in the possible range rather than straight line regarding plasticity. And, red color was applied as accent color and grey color was used as basic color to minimize the conflict against indoor environment and harmony with the building was promoted. Conclusion If applies the research results above to the development of new fire hydrant, it was estimated to contribute to decreasing the damage of human life and property together with comfortable indoor environment.

연구배경 초기 화재진화에 필요한 대표적인 소방설비가 소화전이다. 하지만 일반인들이 쉽게 사용하기에는 어려운 점이 있다고 본다. 이에 본 연구자는 그 문제점을 발견하고 해결할 수 있는 디자인방안을 모색해 보았다. 연구방법 연구에 있어서 먼저 설문을 실시하였다. 설문은 크게 일반사용자들이 느끼는 소화전에 대한 인식과 소화전디자인 개선에 필요한 요구사항을 묻는 내용으로 구성하였다. 설문결과에 바탕을 두고 디자인방안을 모색하는데 있어서 크게 기능성, 사용성, 접근성, 조형성으로 나눠 진행해보았다. 연구결과 첫째, 기능성에 있어서 관창(노즐)은 상황에 따라서 직사와 방사가 자유자재로 가능하도록 디자인 하였다. 호스는 국부적으로 발열선을 삽입하여 호스릴 소화전에 있어서 취약한 동결 문제를 해결하였다. 둘째, 사용성에 있어서 방수 시 노즐부의 강한 반발력을 줄이기 위해서 관창 뒷부분은 굴절시킬뿐 아니라 손잡이를 부착하여 발화지점에 대한 조준이 용이하도록 하였다. 또한 문 개방 시 호스릴 전체가 소화전함으로 부터 완전 돌출 되도록 하여 회전이 용이하도록 하였다, 셋째, 접근성에 있어서 “옥내소화전설비의 설치기준”에 입각해서 식별이 용이하도록 하였다. 넷째, 조형성에 있어서 직선형태 보다는 가능한 범위에서 곡선을 살렸다. 또한 색상에 있어서 강조색은 적색을 적용하였으며 베이스컬러는 실내환경과의 충돌을 최소화시키기 위해서 회색계열을 사용하여 건물과의 조화를 꾀하도록 하였다. 결론 이상과 같은 연구결과를 새로운 소화전 개발에 반영한다면 쾌적한 실내 환경과 더불어 화재로 인한 인명과 재산피해를 줄이는데 기여할 수 있으리라 본다.
