This paper explores Jean Piaget’s cognitive developmental stage theory, and the children’s understanding of death in relation to their intellectual development. In particular, I examine children’s perception of death focusing on the preoperational and concrete operational stage of cognitive development. These two stages are viewed as an intermediate period which prepares and organizes concrete thinking, which in turn, prepares for the final period of formal thinking. The final period of formal operations, during adolescence, involves the integration and culmination of earlier periods in which the mature adult level of cognitive structure and function is obtained. In this sense, developmental stages are influential to form of adults’ thinking. To understand children’s perceptions of death in accordance with their developmental stage help parents and teachers establish foothold so as to teach them about death at home and school. From this understanding and knowledge, teachers can comfort appropriately them and help children express their feelings of anger, guilt, sadness, frustration in early time of the loss. In addition, it is important for parents and teachers to take death education so that they can give children correct lessons about death. In this paper, I suggest effective ways of teaching children about death and helping grieving children for parents, teachers, and religious leaders.

본 연구는 기독대학생이 가진 하나님 이미지가 신앙성숙과 자아존중감을 매개변인으로 진로태도성숙에 미치는 영향을 경로분석을 통해 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 변수로는 기독대학생이 가지는 하나님 이미지를 긍정적 이미지, 부정적 이미지, 중립적 이미지로 구분하여 독립변수로 설정하였고, 신앙성숙과 자아존중감을 매개변수, 진로태도성숙을 종속변수로 설정하였다. 본 연구방법은 서울권, 중부권, 영남권의 기독대학생 432명을 대상으로 설문조사 결과를 자료로 사용하였다. 자료 처리는 SPSS 18.0을 이용하여 기술통계, 신뢰도 분석, 상관관계분석을 하였고, AMOS 18.0 통계프로그램으로 경로분석을 위해 가설검증 및 모형의 적합도, 경로계수, 경로효과를 검증하고 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 첫째, 긍정적 하나님 이미지는 신앙성숙에만 직접적인 정적관계가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 자아존중감과 진로태도성숙에 간접적 정적관계가 나타났다. 긍정적 하나님 이미지는 신앙성숙과 자아존중감을 매개로 진로태도성숙에 영향을 주었다. 둘째, 부정적 하나님 이미지는 신앙성숙과 자아존중감에 직접적인 부적관계가 나타났고, 자아존중감과 진로태도성숙에 간접적 부적관계가 나타났다. 부정적 하나님 이미지는 신앙성숙과 자아존중감을 매개로 진로태도성숙에 영향을 주었다. 셋째, 중립적 하나님 이미지는 신앙성숙에만 직접적인 정적관계가 나타났고, 자아존중감과 진로태도성숙에 간접적인 정적관계가 나타났다. 중립적 하나님 이미지는 신앙성숙과 자아존중감을 매개로 진로태도성숙에 영향을 주었다. 넷째, 신앙성숙은 자아존중감과 진로태도성숙에 직접적인 정적관계가 나타났고, 자아존중감은 진로태도성숙에 직접적인 정적관계가 나타났다. 여러 경로 중 긍정적 하나님 이미지 → 신앙성숙 → 진로태도성숙의 경로가 가장 큰 효과를 보였다. 본 연구는 긍정적 혹은 중립적 하나님 이미지 형성이 자아존중감에 직접적인 영향을 주지 않고 신앙성숙을 통한 간접적 유의관계로 자아존중감과 진로태도성숙에 영향을 미친다는 것을 밝힌다. 반면 부정적 하나님 이미지는 신앙성숙 뿐만 아니라 자아존중감에 직접적인 부적 유의관계를 가지며 진로태도성숙에 간접적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 밝힌다.
