This research is based on the result of R&E which has been studied with high school students. In this research, they discovered a variety of patterns presented in the primitive Pythagorean triples through the inductive thinking process of extracting the abstract concept by the inference. When the integers a,b,c are appeared as the lengths of the sides of a right triangle, (a,b,c) is called a Pythagorean triple. That is, a,b,c are positive integers satisfying a2 + b2 = c2 by the Pythagorean theorem. Moreover, the greatest common divisor of a,b,c is equal to 1, (a,b,c) is called a primitive Pythagorean triple. There are infinitely many primitive Pythagorean triples, and they have many interesting patterns. In this paper, we find a variety of patterns, and prove why such patterns appear.

본 연구는 고등학교 학생들을 대상으로 수행한 R&E의 결과를 바탕으로 이루어졌으며, 본 연구에서 학 생들은 추론으로 추상적인 개념을 추출하는 귀납적 사고과정을 통하여 원시 피타고라스 쌍에 존재하는 다양 한 패턴을 발견하고 이를 증명하였다. 양의 정수 a,b,c 가 직각 삼각형의 변의 길이로 나타날 때, (a,b,c) 를 피타고라스 쌍(Pythagorean triple)이라 한다. 즉, 피타고라스 정리에 의해 a,b,c 는 a2 + b2 = c2 을 만족하 는 정수이다. 이 때, a,b,c 의 최대공약수가 1일 때, (a,b,c) 를 원시 피타고라스 쌍(primitive Pythagorean triple)이라 한다. 이러한 원시 피타고라스 쌍은 무한히 많이 존재하며, 매우 흥미로운 패턴들을 가지고 있 다. 이에 본 논문에서는 이러한 다양한 패턴을 발견하고, 그러한 패턴이 나타나는 이유를 밝혔다.
