Character education is a core purpose of elementary education. The government has recently emphasized the importance of character education, but teacher have difficulty to teach character of student. Moral education has been closely with character education. If moral education method to be changed from nominal viewpoint to verbal viewpoint then can make a positive impact to developing healthy character. Ethics of care emphasizes verbal viewpoint for the relational nature of human interaction and of all moral life. Thus this paper attempts to explore implications of bell hook's theory for character education in elementary school. bell hook's theory seems to have different view from nominal viewpoint about the goals, method of character education. So It is to provide teaching method for character education in elementary school.

인성은 생물·유전적인 성향과 후천적인 영향에 의해 형성되는 그 사람의 됨됨이라고 할 수 있다. 인성은 한 사람의 삶의 방향을 결정하는 역할을 한다. 따라서 인성교육은 초등학교 교육의 궁극적인 목적이 되어야 한다. 현재 초등학교 교사들은 인성교육의 중요성을 인지하고 있으나 교실에 적용할 수 있는 수업 방법과 관련된 연구들이 부족하다고 토로한다. 그런데 인성교육에 대한 선행 연구들은 내용적 측면과 관련된 것들이 많다. 인성수업 방법에 대한 논의는 부족한 상황이다. 이에 우리는 인성교육 수업을 명사적 관점과 동사적 관점에서 분류하고 동사적 관점에 근거한 인성수업 방법과 실제를 고찰하였다. 동사적 관점은 명사적 관점과 다르게 인성 형성에 영향을 주는 행위의 과정 즉 동기↔ 과정↔ 실천의 선순환 과정에 관심을 갖는 수업을 의미한다. 행위 과정에 대한 관심은 개인적 차원뿐만 아니라 사회적이고 제도적인 성장도 포함한다. 우리는 동사적 관점의 이론적 근거를 여성주의 학자인 벨훅스(bell hooks)의 경계넘기(border crossing) 개념을 중심으로 고찰하고 이를 토대로 교실 수업에 활용할 수 있는 실제를 논의하였다.
