Today Protestant churches in Korea are desperately in need of responding to rapidly changing environments on-going in social, cultural, and technical dimension, and of dealing with them for their worship services. In this situation, concerns for Contemporary worship are growing more and more. Contemporary worship is the result of efforts that encourage the present congregation specially living in post-modern world to participate in their worship more profoundly by helping them adjust to the new style or form of worship tune to the contemporary background. On this awareness, first this article affirms all attempts or trials in contemporary worships such as seeker’ sensitive worship, emerging worship, blended worship or etc. valuable and significant that are common in many places. Then it presents some essential ideas that those contemporary worships should never disregard for their firm foundation. Of course it does not skip related evidences found in the Scriptures and in the liturgically diachronic tradition. In addition, on the basis of such rationale, more practical but still principle guides to make those goals more secure are proposed for the contemporary pastoral fields. Current protestant churches should not hesitate to accept the changes and, to make appropriate efforts in applying them to their worships more sensitively. By an excuse of preserving orthodox christianity, the churches are not to escape from active participation in needed changes. The more important the true Christian worship is, the more required the arduous efforts of the Church needs to keep it.

오늘날 교회의 예배는 급변하는 환경 속에서 문화와 첨단 기술 및 사상 등과 직면하면서 이에 대한 적극적인 대응을 요구받고 있다. 이런 변화 속에서 최근 한국교회는 이에 대한 반응으로 현대예배(Contemporary Worship)에 대한 관심을 확대해 가고 있는 현실이다. 현대예배는 기존의 예배와 스타일, 각 요소들 간의 비중, 혹은 음악 장르와 악기 등 전반에 걸쳐 오늘의 사회문화적 특성을 반영한 것들로서 이는 현대를 사는 현대 예배자들에게 심도 있는 예배 참여를 위해 필요한 대응 노력의 일환이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 현대예배의 진로를 모색하는 가운데 우선 본 논문은 현대예배의 중요성과 의의에 긍정하면서 본질의 회복과 관련하여 하나님께 영광이어야 하는 예배, 기독교 신학과 예배의 특성을 반영하는 예배, 구속사를 필수적 내용으로 삼아야 하는 예배 등을 다룬다. 이어 통시적 역사 속의 예배의 다양성, 동태적 특성, 상황적 변용성 등을 통해 현대적 예배의 다양한 시도에 대해 정당성을 입증한다. 아울러 그 바탕 위에서 오늘의 예배들이 본질을 지키기 위한 보다 실제적 구비 요건들을 제시한 뒤 나아가 이를 전략적으로 실행하기 위한 방안들을 다루었다. 오늘의 개신교회는 변화의 상황에서 함께 변화하기를 주저하지 말고 적절하면서도 적극적인 변용 노력을 기울여야 함이 마땅하다. 전통을 보수한다는 그릇된 명분을 내세워 세상의 전반적인 변화 현실을 거부하거나 게을리 하여 교회 예배가 후진적 상황으로 밀려나서는 안 된다. 예배의 본질이 중요한 만큼 그것을 가장 효과적으로 구현하기 위한 노력 또한 그 못지않게 중요한 것이다. 복음의 가장 온전한 구현은 그 본질을 대하는 소통 당사자들이 그것을 충분히 이해하고 공감하도록 돕는 수단이 적절할 때 비로소 가능할 수 있다.
