This study attempted to focus on the dream vision of kings in the Goreyo Dynasty and make clear its narrative structure, symbolism and historicity. In addition, it attempted to investigate how it functioned to run the dynasty. Based on it, an attempt was made to understand how kings in the Goryeo Dynasty politically sought to find their political meanings of their dreams in relation to its royal family, especially themselves. As a result, the following results could be found: First, it was found that there was an aspect that the dreams of the kings in the Goryeo Dynasty presented the sacredness of the pedigree of their royal family by borrowing the form of mysterious dreams of their foregone kings. Second, it was found that several elements symbolizing ascension to the throne and kingship appeared in the dreams of kings at the period before obtaining their kingship, which had an aspect that they sought to have its appropriateness. Third, it was found that the omen of a dream during the reigning period of the king had the form that his wish came true with his dream as a momentum on the one hand and the structure that it was presented through his dream on the other. At last, this points show that to construct the medieval holy king and royal family the Goryeo Dynasty made practical use of dream visions[happenings in the dream] with reasonable elements rather than the fables of the mysterious things difficult in making a reasonable explanation in order to show its mysteriousness and holiness of that times. At the same time, it can be found that the form of cyclical structure was generated that the kings, borrowing authority from the holy dream vision of their foregone ones, making the medieval holy king and royal family and becoming the being of holiness, sought to run their dynasty based on it.

본 연구는 고려시대 국왕의 꿈 이야기에 주목하고 그러한 꿈 이야기의 서사구조와 상징성및 역사성 등을 밝히고자 한 것이다. 더불어 그것이 국가운영에 어떠한 기능을 하였는가에 대해서도 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 통해 고려왕실 특히 국왕의 꿈에 대해 해석하고 정치적으로 어떻게 활용하려 했는가 등을 이해하고자 하였다. 첫 번째 장에서는 고려 왕계 선대의 신성한 꿈에 대해 살펴보았다. 그것은 전대의 신성한 꿈의 서사 구조를 빌은 것이었으며, 그러면서도 꿈의 주요 공간이 고려왕실이 신성시한 공간과 연결된 장소였음을 확인하였다. 말하자면 기왕의 신이한 꿈의 형태와 고려 왕실의 근원이라 할 신성한 공간이 결합되어 왕실 혈통의 신성함을 제시하고자 한 면이 찾아진 것이다. 두 번째 장에서는 잠저 시의 꿈에 등극과 왕위를 상징하는 여러 요소가 등장하여 그에 대한 당위성을 얻으려는 면이 확인되어졌다. 이때의 몽조에서는 해중 9층 금탑, 큰 별과 용, 도참적 성격의 鷄聲砧響, 태조와 천명의 현몽 등 등극 및 왕위를 뜻한 상징요소가 나타나 국왕 즉위의 당위성으로 이어졌다. 세 번째 장에서는 국왕 재위 시의 몽보를 살펴보았다. 그 내용은 국왕의 바램이 꿈을 계기로 이루어지는 형태와, 이와 달리 꿈을 통해 국왕의 바램을 제시하는 구조로 나타난 면이 있다. 이는 국왕 재위 시의 중요 현안이 꿈을 통해 해결법이 제시되었음을 말해주는 것으로 이 같은 몽보에 대한 해몽을 통해 국가 운영의 방향을 제시하려 한 것으로 보고자 하였다. 이 연구는 이처럼 국왕의 꿈을 주목하면서 그것이 중세적 신성한 왕실과 그 정치적 활용에 어떻게 기능하였는가를 살피고자 한 것이었다. 결론을 요약하면 고려는 전대의 신성한 꿈 이야기와 신성함을 상징하는 요소 등으로부터 권위를 빌려와 중세적 신성한 왕과 왕실을 만들고, 신성한 존재가 된 국왕은 이를 기반으로 夢報를 통해 국가운영을 도모하는 형태의 순환구조를 만들었다 여겨진다.
