The purpose of this study was to investigate the kindergarten teacher's conceptual understanding of social studies. 40 kindergarten teachers participated in this study. A 'concept mapping' technique was used to collect data. 30 superordinate concepts in relation to social studies were identified. 'I', 'basic life habit,' 'community,' and 'family,' were the most frequently used by the teachers. Social science was far less emphasized by the teachers than sociality of children. Characteristics of the superordinate concepts were described. 812 subordinate concepts were identified in relation to the kindergarten teacher's conceptual understanding of social studies. The results were discussed in relation to implications for early childhood teacher
education.

본 연구는 유아사회교육에 대한 유아교사의 개념도 분석을 통하여 유아교사들이 유아들에게 사회교육을 실시함에 있어 그 내용을 결정하는데 기초가 되는 지식을 알아보고 유아교사교육의 기초자료를 제공하기 위한 목적으로 실시되었다． 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 4년제 대학을 졸업한 교사 40명에게 개별면접을 통하여 개념도를 작성하게 한 후 내용분석을 하였다． 연구결과 유아사회교육과 관련하여 유아교사들이 상위개념으로 사용한 내용은 30개였으며， 상위개념으로 가장 많은 교사들이 사용한 개념은 ‘나', ‘기본생활습관', ‘지역사회', ‘가족’의 순이었다． 30개의 상위개념과 가장 많이 사용된 4개의 상위개념의 특성이 분석되었다． 연구결과에 따라 유아교사교육에의 시사점이 논의되었다．
