The purpose of this study was to analyze the existing researches utilizing meta-analysis on evaluating the effect of music used in general medical settings. For this study, the total of 220 variables was derived from 58 studies conducted between 2000 and 2015. And total of 220 variables were divided into research background, types of medical services, music selection, dependent variables and intervention time. The results indicated that the overall mean effect size was -0.48, Second, the effect size of cardiothoracic surgery was the most effective(-1.13) but there was no statistical difference compared to the other medical services. Third, with music selection, the effect size of music selected by patients was larger than the effect size of music selected by researchers. However, there was no significant statistical difference. Fourth, with dependent variables, the effect size of psychological variables was the largest(-1.16). Finally, with intervention time, music used in pre-operation was the most effective(-1.16), and there was a significant statistical difference.

본 연구는 2000년부터 2015년까지 수술 및 진료의 국내 일반의료현장에서 음악을 치료적으로 사용한 연구를 대상으로 효과크기를 통합적으로 알아보기 위해 메타분석을 실시한 것이다. 석․박사 학위논문과 학술지에 게재된 연구 중 분석기준에 맞는 총 58편을 대상으로 연구자 배경, 진료과목, 음악선곡주체, 종속변인, 그리고 중재시기 등으로 나누어 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 58편으로부터 총 220개의 효과크기가 도출되었다. 전체 효과크기는 –0.48이며 연구자 배경에 따라서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 진료과목에 따라서는 차이가 없었지만 흉부외과에서 큰 효과크기(-1.13)를 보였다. 셋째, 음악선곡주체에 따라서는 환자가 선곡한 음악을 사용한 연구가 더욱 많은 편수를 차지하였지만 효과크기는 치료사가 선곡한 음악을 사용한 연구와 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 넷째, 종속변인에 대해서는 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있었는데 심리적 영역에서 큰 효과크기(-1.16)를 보여주었다. 마지막으로 중재시기에 따라서는 수술 전 음악을 적용한 연구에서 큰 효과크기(-1.16)를 보여주었으며 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있었다.
