This thesis is written as research on the meaning of ‘Jiri-San’ in the contemporary poetry of Korea. Recently, numerous works have been published but ‘Jiri-San’ is not a main theme. There are two particular times that Korean poetry concentrates on ‘Jiri-San’: in the late 1980’s and from the late 1990’s to current times. Most of ‘Jiri-San’ themed poetry focuses on ‘Jiri-San partisan’ problems around the time of the Korean war. This happened so the partisans could reveal their true state and declare their acts as a rightful resistance against the wrong power. However, the poetry creates a problem that brings an ideology into relief instead of burying the true nature of ‘Jiri-San’. Therefore, currently, poets strive to overcome this inclination and to recognize ‘Jiri-San’ as a starting point of reunification and the place of history, harmony and unity.

한국 현대시에 있어 지리산(Jiri-San)이란 어떤 의미인가를 탐구하고자 한 것이 이논문의 목적이다. 최근 들어 많은 작품들이 발표되고 있지만, 실제 일부 시인들만이 집중적인 관심을 보여줄 뿐, 여전히 지리산은 한국 현대시에 있어 중심 소재로 자리잡지는못한 상황이다. 한국 현대시에서 지리산이 집중적으로 다뤄진 것은 크게 두 시기이다. 하나는 1980년대 후반이고, 다른 하나는 1990년대 후반부터 현재에 이르는 시기이다. 지리산 소재 한국 근대시는 대부분 한국전쟁기를 전후한 시기의 지리산 파르티잔의문제에 초점을 맞추어, 이제까지 은폐되어온 그들의 실상을 역사의 전면에 드러내고, 그들의 행동이 외세와 잘못된 권력에 대한 정당한 항거였음을 선언하는 내용으로 되어있다. 그러나 이렇게 될 때, 지리산의 실체는 이면에 묻혀버리고 관념과 이데올로기만전면에 부각되는 문제가 발생하였다. 최근 들어서는 이런 편향성에서 탈피하여, 단순히‘역사 바로세우기’에 국한되지 않고, 지리산을 통일의 시작점이자 모든 한국인이 함께하는 역사의 장, 화합과 통합의 장으로 인식하려는 모습을 보여준다.
