The purpose of this study is to sketch the Chosen’s intellectuals-society of the 18th century through Yijae (頤齋) Hwang Yun-seok (黃胤錫)’s Yijaenango (頤齋亂藁). Simultaneously, Yijaenango researched and worked on the materials of the Silhak discourse. It is now necessary to view this book through the prism of contemporary society. This study shows Yijae as one who has contemporary understanding. This study focuses on records that Yijae had of Hong Dae-yong. Hong Dae-yong was the best Silhak scholar and philosopher of the 18th century. While both studied under same teacher, they did not meet personally until after they had matured academically. When we extract the story of Hong Dae-yong in Yijaenango, Hong Dae-yong seems an affectionate scholar. He was also a considerate person - discussing studies with Yijae, sharing his Chinese books, etc. Creating a story from diary entries doesn’t necessarily lead to an independent ending with a single topic. Each of the sub-themes concentrates on one theme or creates other sub-themes. This process leads to finding social networks among intellects. In other words, an ontology of the relationships between people is required. I suggest that this be the strategy of reading Yijaenango.

이 글은 이재(頤齋) 황윤석(黃胤錫)의 󰡔이재난고(頤齋亂藁)󰡕를 통하여 18세기 조선의 지식인사회를 스케치할 것을 목표로 한다. 그간 󰡔이재난고󰡕는 실학 담론의 근거 자료로서 취급되어 왔다. 그러나 이제 이 책은 당대 사회를 조망하는 프리즘으로 다시 소환할 필요가 있다. 이 글은 ‘이재’를 시대를 읽는 눈으로 의미부여하고자 한다. 이 글은 특히 이재가 ‘홍대용(洪大容)’을 추억하며 기록한 내용에 관심을 갖는다. 홍대용은 18세기 최고의 실학자이자 사상가였다. 이재와 홍대용은 같은 스승을 모셨지만 직접 본 것은 서로 학문적으로 성숙한 뒤였다. ‘󰡔이재난고󰡕 속의 홍대용’을 하나씩 추출하여 엮어 스토리화하는 순간, 홍대용은 다정다감한 학자로 다가온다. 그는 또한 이재와 학문을 토론하며 자신이 중국에서 구한 책을 나눠보도록 하는 등, 배려 깊은 성격의 소유자였다. 이처럼 일기 속의 이야기를 스토리화하는 것은 단일한 주제의 독립적 완결을 도모하지는 않는다. 각 소주제들은 더 큰 주제로 집결되거나 다른 소주제로 확산되어 나간다. 이 과정에서 수많은 지식인 사이의 관계망을 확인하게 될 것이다. 즉 인물 관계의 온톨로지가 요구되는 것이다. 이를 󰡔이재난고󰡕를 읽는 방법으로 제안해 본다.
