The purpose of this study was to investigate children's inappropriate behaviors and their teachers' response strategies. The subjects were 10 teachers and three- and five-year-old children in their classrooms. The interactions between children and teachers were videotaped and analyzed in term of the types of inappropriate behaviors, teachers' responses, the types of activity, and the number of children involved in inappropriate behaviors.
The results of this study were as follows: First, children tended to display inappropriate behaviors which resulted in disrupting group lives. Second, teachers' response strategies varied depending on the types of children's inappropriate behaviors. Third, teachers' responses, regardless of the type, were effective in reducing children's inappropriate behaviors. Finally, when the initial response of the teacher failed to reduce children's inappropriate behaviors, they tended to use different response strategies.

본 연구의 목적 은 유아교육기관에서 유아가 보이는 부적절한 행동에 대해 교사가 어떻게 반응하고 지도하는지를 알아보는 것이다． 본 연구의 대상은 서울에 소재한 유치원의 만3세와 만5세 교사 각 5명 씩 총 l0명의 교사와 그들이 담당하고 있는 유아들이다． 연구결과 첫째， 유아들은 집단생활과 감정과 욕구의 조절과 관련된 부적절한 행동을 가장 많이 하였다． 둘째， 교사는 유아의 부적절한 행동 유형에 따라 다른 반응전략을 사용하였고， 교사가 사용한 전략은 유아의 부적절한 행동을 중단시키는데 효과적이었다． 셋째， 교사는 유아가 부적절한 행동을 계속할 경우 다양한 방식으로 재반응 하였다． 사회환경의 변화에 따라 변화하고 있는 교사교육 패러다임의 특성과 변화의 방향을 탐색해 보고자 하는 것이 목적이다．
