The 8th MEP's elections were taken on 22-25 May 2014 by the direct vote of European Citizen. They made 42.54% turnout. The European People's Party (Christian Democrats; EPP) and the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) had succeeded to continue as two big political groups. Another 5 political groups as European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL), the Greens / European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA) and Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group (EFDD) had changed their MEP's seats order. The provisional ratio of male to female MEPs at the time of publication was 63% to 37%, a slight increase in the number of women over the last Parliament. (65% to 35%). This study on the results about 2014 MEP Elections could suggest some ideas on the research of korean electoral system itself. First of all, The article 6 of Directive 93/109, as amended by Directive 2013/1/EU, could be employed as research material on giving voting rights office of Korean nationals overseas. Secondly, the article 17.7 of TEU could be also employed as important material about the study on the President's elections of Korean Local Collectivities. Thirdly, the share-out of MEPs' seats among EU countries for 2014-2019 could be used as the new Model in the case of the Korean National Assembly Deputy Elections.

유럽시민의 직접 비밀선거에 의하여 2014년 5월 22일 – 25일 실시한 제8대 유럽의회 의원선거에서는 투표율 42.54%를 기록하였으며, 유럽국민당과 유럽사회당이 제1당과 제2당으로서의 지위를 유지하여 2강으로 나타나고 있으며, 유럽자유민주연대, 유럽녹색당, 유럽통합좌파당 과 유럽자유민주당, 유럽보수개혁연대는 종전과 마찬가지로 5약으로 나타나고 있다. 선출된 의원의 성별 분포도를 분석하면 여성의원의 비율이 점진적으로 향상되고 있으며, 2014년 선거에서는 37%의 의석을 여성의원이 확보하고 있다. 유럽선거의 결과 그 자체가 미칠 수 있는 영향 뿐만 아니라 선거제도의 측면에서도 2014년 유럽의회의원선거는 우리나라에도 시사하는 바가 크다고 할 수 있다. 첫째는 EU시민으로서 다른 회원국가에 거주하고 있는 자에 대하여 선거권과 피선거권을 일부 제한하고 있는 국가에 대하여는 그 제한을 폐지하도록 하고 있는 점을 들 수 있다. 이는 우리나라에서도 재외국민의 공직선거권 부여에 관한 연구에 있어 참조 또는 활용할 수 있을 것으로 본다. 둘째 유럽의원선거에서 비례체감원칙(le principe de la dégressivité proportionnelle)에 따라 의원정수를 배분하는 방법은 도시와 농촌지역 간에 인구편차가 심각하게 나타나고 있는 우리나라의 경우에 국회의원 정수 조정 방법으로도 활용될 수 있을 것으로 하겠다. 셋째 2014 유럽선거에서는 그 선거 결과를 유럽연합 집행부 수반인 집행위 위원장 선출과 연계하고 있다. 이러한 선거제도는 우리나라 지방선거에서 단체장 선출 방법을 연구함에 있어 주요한 자료가 될 것이라 할 수 있다.
