The paper compares how Yeats and Pope in their works, The Words Upon the Window-pane and “The Rape of the Lock,” treat real people. Though the genres are different, they both have a similar approach to dramatizing the stories. Pope’s is a narrative poem with qualities of drama, and Yeats’s is a play, which includes powerful poems, rendering the whole play poetic. These two writers, in addition, rely on readers’ preconceptions of spirits and ghosts, making their works even more mysterious and fantastic. This paper discusses how both writers use the elements of the supernatural to dramatize the stories of real people for literary creation.
