The Korean Text of the Great Ming Code Directly Explicated Da Ming Lü Jikhae(大明律直解) is one of the most important law codes in East Asian legal history. An essential part of Cartalism and Metallism efforts of the early Chosŏn Dynasty. The Code provided the accounting system with Early Korean monetary system did related to sharing the Western view from Greek that money originated from Aristotle’s deduction and Plato’s imagination of money. Classical Korean monetary system has two origins, one is autonomy to the market, another one is the spreading use of money stemmed from the priorities of finances for central government. Bronze coin still had powerful primacy as a monetary standard, but from thirteenth century, bronze coin no longer corresponded to needs of actual coin. This paper addresses a characteristic feature of the Korean accounting transition from Koryŏ to Chosŏn that differed significantly from the Chinese case.

본 연구는 14세기 말 국가 번역 사업으로 편찬된『대명률직해(大明律直解)』호율(戶律) 창고(倉庫) 초법(鈔法)과, 전법(錢法) 조항의 이두 번역을 재해석하여 동 시대 화폐제도를 규명한다. 서양에서 화폐사상은 플라톤 계열과 아리스토텔레스 계열로 구분된다. 플라톤 사상은 화폐의 기원은 국가에서 비롯된다고 이해하는 카르탈리즘(Cartalism; Antimetallism, State, Card) 계열을 발전시켜왔다. 아리스토텔레스 사상은 시장의 교환가치에 의해 결정된다고 보는 금속주의(Catallactics; Metallism, Market Exchange) 계열의 화폐사상을 발전시켜왔다. 『대명률직해』전법(錢法)은 시장 주도의 금속주의 화폐사상과 초법(鈔法)은 국가 주도의 법정 화폐사상과 대비된다. 본 연구에서는 유럽의 고전적 화폐사상을 『대명률직해󰡕의 초법, 전법과 비교하여 동아시아 특히 조선에서 금속화폐와 종이화폐가 서로 어떠한 연관을 형성하고 있는지를 구명한다. 특히『대명률직해』초법 조항의 이두번역에 나타나는 감합법(勘合法)과 중기법(重記法)의 특징을 추출하여 조선은 명나라보다 훨씬 정교한 제도를 이미 갖추고 있었음을 제시한다. 또한 원(元)의 지원통행보초(至元通行寶鈔)와 명(明)의 대명통행보초(大明通行寶鈔)를 비교하여 『대명률직해』의 초법은 지원통행보초와 일정한 연관이 있는 점을 제시한다.
