China is the origin of Artistic ceramics, which is a kind of plastic arts with value of art and usefulness, it is not only the subject matter of material science, art science, and also of the Intellectual property law. To easy the discussion, the article, first of all, divides Artistic ceramics into shape of sculpture and artificial pictures, and secondly focusing on the artificial pictures or the whole Artistic ceramics, analyses various types of IP protection for Artistic ceramics, such as works of fine, works of applied art, folklore, folk arts and crafts, trademarks, design patent and unfair competition protection. Concerning factors of originality, novelty or significance, artistry, usefulness, we can work out the subject matter of Artistic ceramics in IP and unfair competition law, while the core of Artistic ceramics lies in copyright and patent, that is, works of fine and design. However, as for the development of artistic ceramics, law lays second, while the originality and creativity is the first driving force.
