This master's thesis compared Wui Hwa's Novel Heosamgwan Mehyeolgi and Ha Jeongwoo's Movie Heosamgwan in the context of the original work and dramatization of it, and diagnosed success and failure of the latter. The analytical method is based on the followings: the direction of theme and embodiment of characters, selection of narration to build plot, securing of popular appeal, tragicomic style, performance style of actors and actresses, and trends of contemporary movies, etc. And, it also tried to find points where there are similarities and differences between the novel and the movie, and the effects of such points on the success and failure of the movie. Although the movie Heosamgwan made the concept called 'family' its theme, the movie failed to show a unified plot, and deviated from character-focused narrative. Thus, it did not carry the weight of the novel, falling into a tragicomedy. By eradicating the time context in which the novel developed the story, the dramatic background of the novel could not infiltrate into the plot of the movie. And the decision of the movie producer to have melodramatic narrative to secure its popular appeal while retaining the story of the novel where Heosamgwan sells his blood led him to become a common man in our neighborhood, reducing the weight of the theme of the novel. The main character Ha Jeongwoo only showed superficial emotion in his performance style, and, his style was unfortunately compared with the strong image of 'father' in the Korean modern history demonstrated in the contemporary movie, Gukjesijang, leading to the failure at the box office. The problematic element of the movie Heosamgwan is that, while it is essential to be creative in dramatizing a novel into a movie, it is also necessary to choose a proper method in which one should embody the narration of the novel in the one's own genre as perfectly as possible.

이 논문은 위화의 소설 <허삼관매혈기>를 영화화 한 하정우의 <허삼관>을 원작과 각색의 입장에서 비교 분석하였고, 그 성패를 진단하였다. 분석의 방법은 각개의 주제 향방이 인물형상화, 플롯구축을 위한 서사의 선택, 대중성 확보, 희비극적 스타일, 배우의 연기 스타일, 동시기 영화의 흐름 등을 기반으로 하였고, 원작으로부터의 유사성 내지는 차별성을 불러오는지점과 그로 인한 성패요인을 찾고자 하였다. 영화 <허삼관>은 ‘가족’이라는 차별적 개념을 주제화했지만 통일된 플롯을 구축하지 못하였고, 인물중심의 내러티브에서 벗어나는 바람에 원작의 무게를 이어받지 못하고 소박한 희비극으로 변질돼 버렸다. 시대성을 제거하면서 극적인 배경이 플롯에 스며들지 못하는 문제 또한 발견되었다. 또한 매혈을 하는 허삼관을 동일하게 유지하면서도 대중성 확보를 위한 멜로물적 서사 선택이 허삼관을 평범한 우리의 이웃으로 주제적 무게를 줄이는 결과를 낳았다. 주인공 하정우의 연기스타일도 표면적 정서만을 구축하였고, 이로 인해 동시기의 <국제시장> 같은 한국현대사에 놓인 아버지상과 비교되는 불운도 겪으면서 흥행의 실패라는 결과를 가져오게 되었다. 영화 <허삼관>의 문제적 요인은 창조적 각색이 기본이지만 그것을 완성도 있게 자체의장르에서 형상화하는 방법적인 선택도 필수적이라는 교훈을 얻을 수 있다.
