This thesis examines how the art of image projection has evolved since the advent of video art, and reviews various discourses on spectatorship in the context of gallery-based, screen-reliant installation art. It also analyzes the transformation of the concept of projection in connection with today's projection-based new media art and new modes of spectatorship that result from such transformation. Digital media technology has added new dimensions to the space of spectatorship and, coupled with computer network technology, has brought about complex and potentially unstable types of spectatorship. The concept of digital projection encompasses multi-sensorial sharing and offers a new perspective towards interactivity. Projection-based new media art directs us to engage in the formation of communities through connected screens while promoting relational spectatorship as a means of artistic practice that manifests human interactions in specific social contexts.

본 논문은 비디오 아트에서의 투영된 이미지의 발전과 스크린-매개 설치 미술에서 최근의 프로젝션-기반 뉴 미디어 아트로의 프로젝션 개념의 전이와 관객성의 변모된 양상을 분석했다. 스크린-매개 설치미술에서의 관객성의 공간은디지털 테크놀로지에 의해 다원화되었고 컴퓨터 네트워크에 의해 가능해진 새로운 공간적 관계성과 함께 복잡하고 잠재적으로 불안정한 관람 유형이 초래되었다. 디지털 프로젝션의 개념은 이미지 투영을 넘어서 데이터 투영을 통한다중적 감각을 공유하는 것으로 전이, 확장되며 상호작용성을 재고하게 한다. 또한 프로젝션 기반 뉴 미디어 아트는 스크린-접속 영역에서의 공동체 형성에관한 논의를 유도하며 사회적 문맥을 취하는 예술적 실천으로 집단적인 의미를 정립해내는 관계적 논리에서의 관객성을 촉진한다.
