Annual Detection Characteristics of Perfluorinated Compounds (PFCs) in the Southern Coastal Water of South Korea

The objective of this study is to investigate annual detection characteristics of 10 perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) in southern coastal water of South Korea, which is part of an ongoing program of monitoring on the local distribution of PFCs. All samples were analyzed by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC/ESI-MS/MS). Method detection limit (MDL) and limits of qantification (LOQ) of PFCs were in the range of 0.40 to 1.90 ng/L and 1.50 to 6.50 ng/L, respectively. Among 10 PFC compounds, PFCs with high detective frequency and high concentration in the southern coastal water of South Korea were perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) in order during 2013 and 2014 two years. PFHxA, PFDA, PFUnDA, FDoDA, PFBS, PFDS were not detected in this coastal water. Average concentration at each samlpe site of PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS and PFNA in 2013 year were in the range of 7.27 to 18.48 ng/L and < LOQ0 to 33.51 ng/L and < LOQ to 12.30 ng/L, and < LOQ to 4.22 ng/ L, repectively. Average concentration of PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS and PFNA in 2014 year were in the range of 11.30 to 22.64 ng/ L and < LOQ to 12.67 ng/L and < LOQ to 8.16 ng/L, and < LOQ to 7.41 ng/L, repectively. These results suggest that continuous monitoring by year of PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, and PFNA is needed in southern coastal area of Korea.

본 연구에서는 한국의 남해안 연안에서 10개의 과불화합물(Perfluorinated Compounds, PFCs)에 대한 년도별 검출 특성을조사하였다. 채취된 시료에 대한 기기분석법은 liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry(LC/ESI- MS/MS) 법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 사용된 분석기의 PFCs 방법검출한계(method detection limit, MDL)는 0.40-1.90 ng/L, 정량한계(limits of qantification, LOQ)는 1.50-6.50 ng/L이었다. 2013년과 2014년 2년 동안 한국 남해안 연안에서 10개의 PFCs 중 검출빈도 및농도가 높은 화합물은 perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate(PFOS), perfluorohexane sulfonate(PFHxS), perfluorononanoic acid(PFNA) 순으로 나타났으며, PFHxA, PFDA, PFUnDA, FDoDA, PFBS, PFDS 화합물은 검출되지 않았다. 2013년에 남해안 연안에서 검출된 지점별 평균 농도 범위는 PFOA가 7.27-18.48 ng/L, PFOS < LOQ0-33.51 ng/L, PFHxS < LOQ-12.30 ng/L, PFNA < LOQ-4.22 ng/L으로 나타났으며, 2014년에는 PFOA가 11.30-22.64 ng/L, PFOS < LOQ0- 12.67 ng/L, PFHxS < LOQ-8.16 ng/L, PFNA < LOQ-7.41 ng/L으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 남해안 연안에서 PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS 및 PFNA의 화합물에 대한 지속적인 모니터링의 필요성을 시사한다.
