Unlike the name , a story of Ha and Jin family, indicates, it is a novel structured around Hawokyoon(河玉潤), a daughter of Ha family. It shows how she acquired an authority of the family and how she revives a fallen family through various events and the relationship with people around her. The author shows Hawokyoon acquiring an authority of the family naturally through matrilocal residence, and a position of female governor who controls all female shapes her superiority to the husband's family after marriage. The intent of the author was to present the possibility of obtaining the statue of woman through effort and accomplishments. Despite making a home and family around Hawokyoon, the family and its authority were only achieved in the imaginary area. The merit that the author tried to stir up through the novel has magnified to the unintended side. Because the author tried to add vividness to his/her novel, the male illustrated as a noble man, and the female illustrated as a lewd woman. The reasons may came from the limit in a view of the world of the author and the paradigm of era the author was living. Even though the author tried to stir up the female consciousness by , there is a limit to express it metaphorically because of the patriarchal property. However, it is worth to read this novel since it criticizes the “male” and “patriarchal ideology” in pliable way. Also, it takes a positive view of female at that time.

<하진양문록>은 하 씨 집안과 진 씨 집안의 기록이라는 제명과는 달리, 하 씨 집안의 딸 하옥윤을 중심으로 서사가 구성되어 있다. 그녀가 어떻게 家權을 획득하고 어떻게 몰락한 집안을 일으키는지를 다양한 사건과 인물들간의 관계를 통해 보여주고 있다. 작가는 여성인 하옥윤이 가권을 획득하는 것을 데릴사위제를 통해 상황을 호도하여 자연스럽게 보이도록 하고, 모든 여성을 총괄하는 여총재 지위를 통해 결혼해서도 남편의 가문보다 우위에 서도록 형상화하였다. 이런 작가의 의도는 노력과 성취를 통한 지위 획득이라는 여성의 가능성을 제시하려는 것이었다. 그러나 그렇게 하옥윤을 중심으로 한 집안과 가문을 만들어냈지만, 그 가권과 가문은 상상적 영역에서 이뤄지는 집안이었고 영토였을 뿐이다. 작가가 소설을 통해 제시한 가치는 작가가 스스로 형상화한 핍진한 설정으로 인해 의도치 못한 측면을 부각시키고 말았는데, 대표적으로 남성은 군자처럼 형상화되고 여성은 음녀로 규정되는 등의 결과를 낳고 말았다. 이는 작가적 세계관의 한계와 작가가 살던 그 시대의 패러다임에서 자유롭지 못했던 이유도 있다. <하진양문록>은 여성의식을 고취하고 강조한 작품이지만 궁극적으로 남성 가부장제에 포착될 수밖에 없는 서사 내적 한계로 인해 작가의 의도가 온전히 성취되지는 못했다. 그러나 ‘남성’과 ‘가부장’에 대한 유연한 비판과 ‘여성’에 대한 긍정적 시각을 보여주었다는 점에서 가치가 있다고 할 것이다.
