In the 21st century, Korea has encountered the problem of peaceful coexistence among people with diverse cultural backgrounds, which results from transnational exchange of various resources in the era of neo-liberal globalization. In an effort to support “multiculturalism” the Korean government has tried to establish numerous policies for societal integration, which thus far has been limited to assimilation into the cultural majority. Consequently, I argue that the prerequisite for an authentically multicultural environment is to break down the walls of prejudice, the so-called “homogeneous nationalism” deep inside Koreans' mind. Thus, in this article, I try to find a way to overcome nationalistic prejudice through the perspective of Christian education. Starting from the definition of prejudice based on Gordon W. Allport(1958), I examine the factors forming prejudiced thinking, the reason why it is generated, and several conditions for rejecting it. In addition, by investigating the relationship between religion and prejudice, we may derive some important educational implications through which prejudice may be averted by the support of an internalized Christian faith. Based on those studies, I try to reveal the nationalistic prejudice deep inside Koreans by conducting interviews. Furthermore, I aim to suggest a potential example for multicultural Christian education toward the “shared praxis,” showing the process of transforming one's awareness through five ways of dialectical hermeneutic methods as Thomas H. Groome(1980) suggested.

21세기 한국적 상황은 세계화의 흐름 가운데 다양한 자원들의 초국가적(transnational) 이동과 그로 말미암은 신자유주의적(neo-liberal) 세계화의 범람, 그리고 다양한 문화적 배경을 가지고 있는 사람들 간의 평화공존 문제에 직면해 있다. 한국 정부는 명목상으로는 ‘다문화주의’를표방하면서 사회의 통합을 위한 다양한 정책들을 내놓고 있지만, 현 상황에서 한국인들이 해결해야 할 우선적인 과제는 바로 많은 한국인들의인식 속에 깊이 뿌리 박혀 있는 ‘단일민족주의’라는 민족주의적 편견을해결하는 것이라고 본다. 따라서 본고에서는 기독교교육학적인 관점에서 이와 같은 편견적 사고를 극복하기 위한 방법을 찾고자, 미국의 사회심리학자 고든 올포트(Gordon W. Allport, 1958)의 이론을 바탕으로편견에 대한 예비적 고찰을 진행한 후에, 토마스 그룸(Thomas H. Groome, 1980)이 제시한 공유적 실천(shared praxis)을 위한 다섯가지 교수방법을 활용한 인터뷰를 시행하였다. 그럼으로써 본고는 한국인들의 ‘단일민족주의’가 어떤 모습으로 자리하고 있는지를 드러내는 한편, 이러한 민족주의적인 편견이 성서의 내용을 직면, 성찰함으로써 어떻게 전환되는지에 관한 실례를 제시함으로써 공유적 실천을위한 다문화 기독교교육의 한 가지 가능성을 나타내려고 하였다.
