This study questions the existing understanding of Kim Chun Su’s early masterpiece . Researchers and the poet himself view the poem’s meaning as a metaphysical perspective, on the relationship between existence and language. Unlike the researcher group’s perspective, the general population views the work as a love poem. This general understanding seems to have contributed to the poem’s status as one of people’s favorite poems. However, there is no basis for excluding such understanding of the poem. Accordingly, researchers too could not completely negate the possibility of this reading. This study aims to avoid the existing understanding as a metaphysical perspective and to examine the reinterpretation as a love poem. The interactive process through language, in the mutual “calling of name,” becomes significant in this reinterpretation. Through this naming, the formless drive and desire enter the realm of meaning. This case resembles psychoanalysts’ attitude towards patients. Then essence of psychoanalysis lies in the process of linguistic dialogue between psychoanalysts and patients. Only through this relationship could patients’ unrepresentative drive and desire become meaningful. Such mutual relationship and the signifying process based on this relationship could not be valid without what Kristeva calls the mutual respect, trustful attitude, and most importantly emotional tie. In other words, a psychoanalysis is specific in that a transferential loving relationship between the two is essential and that this relationship is formed and maintained through language. Kim’s is an example of this psychoanalytic attitude, as a love poem based on the loving attitude. This poem could be interpreted as a love poem, of the discovery and finding process of mutual meaning through love.

이 글은 김춘수 시인의 초기 대표작인 ｢꽃｣의 이해와 감상을 둘러싼 의문으로부터 출발한다. 시인 자신과 전문가들은 이 텍스트를 존재와 언어의 관계에 바탕을 둔 형이상학적 탐구의 의미를 담은 작품으로 이해한다. 그러나 이러한 전문가 그룹의 이해와는 별개로, 우리 주변의 대다수 일반인들은 이 텍스트를 일종의 연시(戀詩)로 받아들이고 있다. 실제로 이 텍스트가 오늘날 널리 사랑을 받는 국민적인 애송시로 자리 잡기까지는 이러한 일반인들의 오해(?)가 상당 부분 기여한 것으로 생각된다. 그러나 사실 이 텍스트를 연시로 이해한다 하여도 잘못되었다고 할 만한 뚜렷한 근거는 없다. 전문가들도 이러한 해석의 가능성을 완전히 부정하지는 못한다. 이에 필자는 언어에 대한 존재론적 인식을 기반으로 한 형이상학적 탐구라는 종래의 이해가 지닌 해석상의 편협함을 벗어나, 일반인들이 이해하고 있는 바와 같이 연시의 일종으로 이해하였을 때 이 텍스트의 의미를 어떻게 재해석할 수 있는가를 살펴보고자 한다. 이 경우 주목해보아야 할 점은 상호간에 ‘이름을 부르는 행위’ 즉 언어를 통한 상호작용적인 과정이다. 이러한 명명 행위를 통해 무정형의 충동과 욕망은 의미의 세계에 진입할 발판을 마련하게 되는 것이다. 이러한 사정은 피분석자들 대하는 정신분석가의 태도와 유사하다. 정신분석이란 기본적으로 분석가와 피분석자 사이의 언어적 대화를 통해 이루어지는 과정이며, 또한 이런 관계를 통해서만 피분석자의 내면에 잠재되어 있는 표상 불가능한 충동과 욕망의 실체를 발견하고 그것을 명명하여 의미화를 시도하는 과정이기 때문이다. 이런 양자의 관계, 그리고 그것에 기초한 의미화의 과정은 크리스테바가 지적했듯이 정신분석에서의 양자(피분석자와 분석가) 사이의 상호 존중과 신뢰의 정신, 나아가 깊은 정서적인 유대 관계로서의 사랑의 감정이 없다면 결코 성립되지 않는다. 다시 말해서 정신분석이란 이들 양자 사이의 전이적 사랑의 관계가 필수적이며, 이 관계는 언어를 통해서만 생성되고 유지된다는 점이 특징적이다. 김춘수의 시 ｢꽃｣은 이러한 정신분석적인 태도, 사랑의 태도를 기반으로 작성된 탁월한 연시의 예에 해당된다고 볼 수 있으며, 그런 사랑의 태도를 통해 상호간의 의미를 발견하고 찾아가려는 과정을 표현한 텍스트로 해석할 수 있다는 것이다.
