Magnetic Entropy Properties of Manganite Alloy

The magnetocaloric effect and magnetization behaviors have been studied for La1-xPbxMnO3 (x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3) alloys. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that all the La1-xPbxMnO3 (x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3) compound had a single phase with an orthorhombic structure. Adiabatic temperature change was measured directly by a special cryostat. The Curie temperature increased from 190 K to 350 K with increasing Pb concentration. The magnetic properties showed superparamagnetic behavior above Tc. A large magnetic entropy change, which is calculated from H vs M curves associated with the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transitions has been observed. The maximum of La0.8Pb0.2MnO3 was 1.22 J/kg K at 290 K for an applied field of 1.5 T.
