Since Sri Lanka chose to offer Korean as a second language at secondary schools, Korean language education has spread rapidly. Thus, training competent Sri Lankan teachers of Korean has become of utmost importance to meet the popular demand for Korean language education in Sri Lanka. This study investigates the current Korean language teacher training program in Sri Lanka and the results of a survey administered to The purpose of the study is to suggest ways to enhance the Korean language teacher training program. This study examines the limits and problems of the current program and shows the implications of the needs of the educational infrastructure. The results suggest that, first, an analysis of the reality of Sri Lankan secondary schools is needed. Second, the Korean language teacher training program should be developed considering different learner characteristics. Third, the program should have clear goals and purposes. Fourth, systematic management of the program is needed. Finally, a support policy is needed for teachers who enter the educational field after completing the program. If from other countries and information on various Korean education environments are collected, non-native Korean speaker teacher education will become more objective and systematic.

스리랑카는 중고등학교에 제2외국어로 한국어를 채택하여 스리랑카 한국어 교육은 급속도로 확대되어 가고 있다. 스리랑카의 한국어 교육 열풍을 지속시키기 위해서는 유능한 교사를 육성하는 일이 무엇보다 중요하다. 이 연구는 현행 스리랑카 한국어 교사 양성 프로그램을 살펴보고 이 프로그램에 참가한 현직 스리랑카 교사들을 대상으로 한 만족도 조사를 조사하였다. 또한 현행 한국어 교사 양성 프로그램의 한계와 문제점을 살펴보고 이후 발전을 위한 교육 기반의 필요성을 정리해 보고자 하였다. 스리랑카에서의 한국어 교육 발전을 위해서는 먼저, 스리랑카 중고등학교에서의 한국어 교육 실제에 대한 분석이 선행되어야 한다. 두 번째 한국어 교사 양성 프로그램은 학습자 변인의 특성을 고려한 상태에서의 프로그램 개발이 이루어져야 한다. 세 번째 교사 양성 프로그램의 목적과 목표가 분명해야 한다. 네 번째 교사 양성 프로그램의 체계적 운영이 필요하다. 마지막으로 교사 양성 프로그램을 수료하고 현장에서 활동하고 있는 교사에 대한 지원 정책이 필요하다. 앞으로 다양한 국가의 한국어 교원 프로그램 개발을 위해서는 학습자 요구와 현지 한국어 교육 상황에 대한 정보들이 수렴된다면 더욱 객관적이고 체계적인 한국어 교원 양성 과정이 설계되리라 기대한다.
