Picture books have a mutual text combined with 2 kinds of media, reading and painting. Besides there are essential abilities to lead eruption, discernment and sublimation of ego defense mechanism and to boost human being’s nature and to help establishing of moral values, as well. An illustration, one of picture book’s genres, is closed to daily life of modern people several topics and materials to represent in there and is free of the trend. It is easy to approach for the mentally challenged people because it does not persist in artistry and philosophy to others. Moreover, it is ideally considered one of psychotherapy medium owing to the popularity. Through this study, depth psychology is contemplated that based on psychoanalysis, individual and analytic psychology, etc. To carry out remedy properly, the psychology has provided plans and method. Furthermore, it is clearly revealed from analyzed clinic example that it can reach insight and sublimation aimed for remedy of the entrenched psychological disorder through consensus-making that communicated with clients how they are feeling such as feeling of doubt and helplessness so on and support by using picture books.

그림책은 미술과 독서, 두 가지 매체의 상호텍스트성이 있어서 방어기재 분출과 통찰 그리고 승화를 이끄는 기능과 인간의 성품 고양과 도덕적인 가치관 확립 등 자아 성장에 필수적인 기능이 같이 있다. 그림책 표현 장르인 일러스트레이션은 사조에 자유롭고 주제와 소재가 현대인의 일상생활과 밀접하다. 그리고 심오한 철학성이나 예술성을 고집하지 않으므로 심리 장애자들에게 접근하기 쉽고 대중성이 있어서 심리치료 매체로서는 이상적이라고 할 수 있다. 이번 연구를 통해 정신분석학, 개인심리학, 분석심리학 등 이론적 바탕이 되는 심층심리학을 고찰하였다. 치료를 효과적으로 수행하기위한 계획과 방법을 제시하였으며 그림책을 활용한 다양한 방법으로 내담자의 감정, 회의, 무력감등이 표출된 표현물과 함께 대화하며 상호 공감 형성과 격려를 통해서 고착된 심리장애가 치료 목표인 통찰과 승화에 이르게 된다는 사실을 임상 사례 분석으로 확인할 수 있었다.
